Arsenal (A) 3pm Saturday 22nd February

Arsenal have the 2nd best home record in the Premier League, played 12, won 8, drawn 4, they are 3rd for most goals scored at home and 3rd for fewest goals conceded at home

The good news is that their top three scorers - Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are all injured along with Gabriel Jesus

Starting XI vs Leicester

Raya
Timber Gabriel Saliba Lewis-Skelly
Odegaard Partey Rice
Nwaneri Trossard Sterling

We won the last time we were at the Emirates but we'd lost the previous seven visits

Bizarrely we've not drawn away at Arsenal since 31st January 2009, 0-0

I'd take that!

    Areola
    Todibo - Kilman - Cresswell
    Wan-Bissaka - Ward-Prowse - Souček - Emerson
    Bowen - Paquetá
    Ferguson

Very difficult to get anything from this. I’d imagine another defeat & then a huge game midweek against Leicester.
  • Just looked up that 0-0 draw back in 2009

Zola parked the bus, we had 2 shots to their 22 and Savio made his 2nd appearance

    The horror, the horror...

  • Agree with Lukerz . Definitely have Soucek and Ferguson for their height at corners. Possibly Scarles for Emerson. Was torn between Kudus and Paqueta but injury has probably settled that decision. JWP deserves a start after Brentford performance.
  • I’d be happy with Scarles over Emerson
  • I fancy us in this, just got a feeling.

    1-3
  • What ever Lukerz is having please =)
  • There has never been a recent season which has presented a better opportunity to give some of our academy players the chance to have a run of appearances to see if they can make the grade. Other than a total collapse we are not getting relegated so it's a perfect time to see who can swim in these waters and who may struggle.

I think Scarles, Earthy and Orford should be getting regular minutes, whilst I think it's a shame Freddie Potts is on loan as I would have loved see if he could bring anything.
  • Isn’t Earthy still on loan at Bristol City.

I agree about Earthy, but that's down to Liam Manning at Bristol City where Earthy is on loan 😂🤣😂.

  • I looked on the pompey forum to see what they thought of Potts... I'll need check the Bristol City for Earthy later it seems!

'We’ve no chance of buying him, he’ll go back to WHU and be first teamed. IMO he’ll be in the England squad in the next 30 months.'

I must add that someone did tell this poster that he was delusional.

'West Ham will sell him at some point as he becomes a victim of the home grown player/FFP fiasco.
He's a long way from being premier league ready.
Without being harsh to my beloved blues, the table tells us we are one of the poorer sides in the Championship and he is far from our best player.
A few years of improvement could see him sign for a top 6 Championship team and have a good career. Great with set pieces, mind.'

'He's a class midfielder with a good passing range & gets stuckin with tackles. Brilliant set piece taker. Different to Robertson. West Ham think an awful lot of him & his dad is still at the club. But you never know in football. If he becomes available in the Summer I'd go for him.'
  • Potter has given minutes to Scarles and Orford plus he kept Casey here rather than letting him go on loan

If he thought any of the other kids were good enough he’d give them a run out
  • Not much in Potter's presser:
Paqueta out, will probably miss the Leicester game as well
    Coufal out
Summerville likely out till after the international break (as he said in his last presser)
    Ferguson needs his minutes managed
  • Depending on how the first 30 minutes goes .I might need my minutes managed in watching the rest of the game =)

Based on last week, take a nap for the first half.
  • Tough game this. Do we try to save a mauling, park the bus and hope for a breakaway goal or engage Arsenal. My choice would be latter and for that we need resilience, power and pace. Too many players have been below par and need changes.

    Areola
    Wan-Bissaka - Todibo - Kilman - Scarles
    Ward-Prowse - Souček
    Bowen - Kudus- Guilherme
    Ferguson

After the showing in the first half against Brentford with a back four, I really can't see us going with anything other than 3 at the back.

    Absolutely

And after Potter's comments about Ferguson* I don't expect to see him in the starting XI

    Areola
    Todibo Kilman Cresswell
    Wan-Bissaka Ward-Prowse Souček Emerson
    Kudus Soler
    Bowen

*From whufc.com "We just need to be careful with him - 90 minutes is a bit of a step up"

Rumours that Raheem Sterling could be replaced by Mikel Merino in the starting XI, might get a clue from Arteta's press conference
  • Merino has been scoring all their goals recently
  • Merino has been scoring all their goals recently

Hmmm, a bit of a woolly argument.

  • All their goals?

He scored both goals against Leicester at the weekend but otherwise he scored against Brentford on New Year's Day and against Liverpool in October. Total four in 27

Nwaneri has scored three in the last seven, seven in 24 this season
  • Both against Leicester last weekend counts as all recently 😁
