Chelsea Vs West Ham - Mon 3rd Feb - KO 20.00

I didn't expect to still be in the seat for this game but after a great performance against Villa I am happy to be so. Chelsea have looked top four quality this season and will certainly be in the fight for one of those places come the run it. However we showed against Villa that when we play without fear and attack a team we do have the ability to take the match to them which is what I think we need to do once again. It being a Monday can only be good regarding our chances of getting Bowen and Summerville back in action and we need to hope Paquetta's injury at the end of Sundays match is not an issue. I think Mavro will be available after his suspension but I really hope Potter sticks with the defence from the Villa match. I love Mavro and never gives any less than his all, but he is not up to Premier league standard, and on Sunday Kilman had his best game for a fair few matches with Cresswell and Coufal alongside him.

  • Chelsea were on a roll just before Christmas, they'd gone eight league games unbeaten after losing to Liverpool, had won five in a row and were up to 2nd. Three days before Christmas there was a bit of a wobble when they unexpectedly drew 0-0 at Everton but then the wheels really fell off with a surprise loss at home to Fulham on Boxing Day and an even bigger surprise loss away to Ipswich four days later.

Since then their only win has come against Wolves and they have dropped to 6th

Like us they have suffered a few injuries to their centre backs with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile still absent.

Levi Colwill has started 21 out of the 22 EPL games he's been available but clearly Maresca was so unimpressed with Axel Disasi or summer signing Tosin Adarabioyo that he recalled Trevor Chalobah from loan at Crystal Palace and he has started both games since his return

Romeo Lavia was injured when we played last and he's injured again now but he did manage to stay fit long enough to make 10 more appearances to bring his total to 13 after 17 months

Mykhailo Mudryk is suspended after failing a drugs test
  • Potter optimistic that Bowen and Paqueta will be available, but Summerville is taking longer than anticipated to recover from his hamstring injury and is likely to miss out. Wrt Todibo, the article simply says he's missed all of Potter's games in charge so far, with no update or information on his injury at all.

    If all available:

    Areola
    Coufal - Kilman - Cresswell
    Wan-Bissaka - Álvarez - Souček - Emerson
    Kudus - Paquetá
    Bowen

Fabiański, Mavropanos, Scarles, Irving, Orford, Rodríguez, Soler, Guilherme, Ings

I’d not be bringing Mavro in & try & keep the same 11 as much as possible to Sunday, but Bowen needs to come back in if fit enough.

Apart from the shuffling around at centre back Maresca is pretty consistent with Sanchez, Cucarella, Caicedo, Jackson and Palmer starting 5 out of 5 EPL matches plus Colwill, Fenandez and Madueke 4 out of 5

Club captain Reece James has started the last two after recovering from yet another hamstring

Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto are used in rotation to fill the third attacking midfielder spot with the occasional start handed to Joao Felix

    Starting XI against City

    Sanchez
    James Chabolah Colwill Cucarella
    Caicedo Fenandez
    Madueke Palmer Sancho
    Jackson

We lost 5-0 last time we visited Stamford Bridge with Jackson scoring twice and Palmer scoring once

We lost 3-0 when they visited us this season with Jackson scoring twice and Palmer scoring once

    I think I see a pattern...
  • Maresca says no new injuries and still deciding whether Roberto Sanchez will be in goal or if he'll be benched for Filip Jorgensen (Danish U21, Villarreal £20m, 13 starts this season inc. 2 Premier League)

Fabrizio Romano says Joao Felix will definitely leave in January and Villa have been in contract
  • I'd be ok with a draw, but not surprised if we nick a sneaky win or get totally thrashed. And definitely frayed tempers and bad behaviour. (Fom me, and probably the players too.)

I’m not sure what the situation is with Paquetá but I’d leave him out of this anyway. We have a two week break after the game & I think if Bowen & Summerville are back available, there is no need to take a chance. He’s not trained for half the week & been in none of the training videos or pictures & he is always one of the first players posted.

I also don’t think this is a game to fear. We may well lose. But we need the same attitude as when we played Villa. They have won one of their last 7 games; in their last 3 home games they have beaten Wolves, drawn with Bournemouth (last minute goal) & lost to Fulham.
  • It’s always struck me as a bit unfair that Chelsea can field 19 players and still have 83 on the bench.
  • Not sure Paquetá is in the squad but Bowen is

Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Coufal, Kilman, Cresswell, Emerson, Rodríguez, Souček, Soler, Kudus, Bowen ©
Subs: Fabiański (GK), Foderingham (GK), Scarles, Casey, Orford, Irving, Luis Guilherme, Ings

Edit: My line-up is straight from the OS, yet has Rodrigeuz starting instead of Irving, yet Irving is said to be starting in the article. Shambles as usual.
  • No Paquetá or Álvarez, still no Summerville

    Areola
    Coufal - Kilman - Cresswell
    Wan-Bissaka - Souček - Irving - Emerson
    Kudus - Soler
    Bowen
  • 2 keepers, 4 under 20s on the bench, paper thin again. Mavropanos is on the bench despite not being listed above.

Paqueta and Alvarez injured, and Summerville still out is really not great news. I hope Bowen hasn't been rushed back too soon.
  • Our club site is so poor. The line up listed is different to what the article states:
  • Irving playing is interesting - Paquetá of course is out after his best performance last game (eye roll).
  • I've been impressed by what little I've seen of Irving.
  • Hoping you are still impressed after you've see a bit more!!
  • I'm expecting a dignified loss
  • I'm expecting a MASSIVE win.
  • I'm expecting a MASSIVE win.

    That's the spirit!!! =)
  • I'm hoping for a not-thrashing and no injuries.

  • I’ve got a strange feeling we”ll get something tonight. Think I need a lie down………⚒
  • Last time we played Chelsea, they exposed our lack of pace (particularly Alvarez’s lack of pace when playing in defence). Today we play with Cresswell and Coufal in defence so I hope the same thing doesn’t happen again

Well, he just trashed Enzo's Achilles. Although my comms said the offender was Kilman.

    Meanwhile Curcurella 😡😖
  • Lol

Apparently there's something about Curcurella that makes a foul against him look more than a foul. His hair, according to the brains trust on my stream.

I'm sure he wouldn't annoy me so much if he just had a haircut, his current mop irrationally really annoys me.

  • How bad are the Paqueta / Alvarez injuries ? thought Summerville would have been back for this game. FA Cup next weekend so hopefully everyone is back for Brentford bar Fullkrug Antonio
  • Why on earth did the ref stop play there?

I could deal with his barnet but he's just such a cheat.
  • And that wasn't a head injury.
