  • I find it hard to blame Fullkrug when we didn’t create a single opportunity for him. Of course there’s an element of him being in the right positions and making the right runs, but at the same time the onus is creative players to generate opportunities for him and we didn’t do that even once today.

Plus, as Alderz said, he’s played so little football and had no chance to build relationships.
  • As soon as Bowen went up top we scored....Don't think anyone is blaming Fulkrug, however, whether him, and J Lo are the right people for WHUFC, that's another story completely...
  • Füllkrug makes his second start of the season & people wonder why he is rusty. 😂

Don't think this needs further comment, no one has really said that on here, we all agree he wasn't match fit, end of, IMO
  • Fulkrugg was inneffective as he has no pace and he went wide. We need the ball in possession higher up the field with him in the middle of the pitch for him to be effective. Not sure we are capable of that.

    … yet.

Exactly, all correct IMO, exactly what Exeter said.. it's down to J Lo, etc etc, is he capable of those tactics to suit him, no way convinced TBH
  • We do seem very reluctant to cross the ball into the box.
  • I still find it incredulous that we have the points that we do have.

As I said the other day, we aren’t going down, we aren’t going to challenge for the top 6. We give Lop the season & review in summer. The club has been awful before Lop came in. There is no benefit to changing manager now.

If Lop came into a side that was doing well, I’d be concerned. He didn’t. He came into a side that was in horrendous form.
  • @Lukerz, Has J Lo shown that he has addressed our trough in form then? How many of the new signings that he is supposed to have had his say on started today?

8 of the 11 who started today were signed under Moyes (other than Fab).

He has a lot of work to do with a side that isn’t completely built in his image & trying to change the style. Considering we managed 31% possession & Brighton had 22 shots (to our 6) in the home game last season, he’s doing a pretty good job at slowly progressing the way we approach games.

It’s not dramatic, but it is happening.
  • How are we comparing to last season? Are we still better off on points?

Can't believe Fabianski has a vote and an honourable mention in the MOTM thread despite clearly being at fault for their goal. It's all about dem onions I guess.

    1 point better off

If we beat Saints, we’ll be 3 points better off
  • Apologies but I must be looking at the wrong set of results for the 2023/24 campaign because I reckon we had "27" points after 17 games in that season?

I think they're talking about the same fixtures (ie the same opponents, and home or away) from last season, just swapping the 3 promoted clubs for the 3 relegated ones.
  • Thanks for clarifying that for me buffy. Obviously people will have a different set of criteria to base their decision on whether it’s been a good season so far or not 👍.
  • I’m not saying it’s been ‘good’. There’s been lots of rubbish. Our possession average though has gone from just over 40% per game to nearly 48% on last season. From the same set of fixtures last season, we are 1 point better off.

Moyes was here for 4.5 years. Lop has been here since July. It is going to take time.
  • I think it has been poor but since Newcastle we have looked much better, not where we want to be by any means, but as though we are taking shape. As there is no seemingly available manager that gets me excited I think it's worth seeing if he can keep improving.
  • I cannot see why Jlo went 5 at the back when we were needing to win the game. We had 8 across our box at times leaving space for their forwards and mid field. Another game we could easily have lost. Personally I cant see any improvement or where Jlo is taking us.

Interestingly, we have now taken points off every side in the bottom 13 of the league (7th-20th), with the exception of Leicester & Spurs. Southampton left to play. We have, however, lost to every single one of the top 6 (Liverpool left to play).

    That’s 20 points from 12 games, +4 GD - outside top 6.

    Then 0 points from 5 games, -12 GD - top 6.

I can only assume VAR missed the contact on the shin when they looked back at that challenge on Kilman. An absolute nailed on red card, no subjectivity about it.
  • We are lucky to get a draw. Brighton had so many clear chances. I can't understand why Lopetegui changed formation and invited Brighton to attack. It was the same against Bournemouth.

We were overrun in midfield and Alvarez was playing centre-back. Paquetá was the usual ineffective self, Füllkrug was anonymous and Mavropanos was making too mistakes. After 17 EPL, 2 league cup and 5 friendly games, Lopetegui hasn't delivered much. If he isn't replaced this season will be mainly about avoiding relegation and good players will be poached by other teams.

He changed it because there was not a lot on the bench. That dictates his changes. If he feels some players are shattered, for example, & wants to beef up & freshen up the middle, he only had Rodriguez to bring on - who himself has not been great & has also had an injury recently. Had Soler or Cresswell been available, I’m sure we would not have gone to a back five. He would have also been mindful of protecting Scarles when he came on - possibly with giving him the security of the back five.

It’s easy to say ‘why did he change it?’ The side was running out of ideas, tiring & we only had one midfielder on the bench (I don’t class Irving, as he clearly isn’t favoured). The fans want young players to play. Scarles got the nod & Lop probably wanted the security of Kilman, Todibo & Coufal with him. That dictated change to a back 3/5. In hindsight, maybe wrong call, but it was what he had on the bench that dictated the changes.
  • It was good to see Scarles get his baptism of fire, thought it was brave and the right thing to do, yes he was caught out a couple of times but that should be expected and he had experienced people around him to help him out.

I am not so sure agree with the down sayers re yesterdays performance, the first half was a bit scrappy but I think we edged it and Brighton are decent, they did come back at us in the second half but I think that was somewhat dictated by our post substitution set up.

For me it was another bang average performance, 1st half was simply very poor, 2nd half we had our 'few minutes and moments' but again, if I'm being honest we were hanging on...

I know many might not agree, but many of the points we've got so far this season have been more than fortunate and for the most, the performances to match, have been equally poor....All IMO...

There is no identity and we play as a bunch of footballers for most, rather than a team...

Thing is, apart from Antonio and Soler, who else wasn't available, are there any others ? yeh, Cresswell, but he's hardly featured this season...
