Kilman has looked really shaky recently. I feel like he’s a lot better with Todibo next to him.

Mainly because Todibo isn't Mavropanos 😂🤣😂.
Trouble is J Lo for some apparent reason thinks he shouldn’t play him 🤦🏻‍♂️. Fortunate point but a good one nonetheless 👍.
  • That reason being injury

It was a very good free kick, but I'm always disappointed when a keeper gets beaten from that range; makes my MOTM decision more difficult.

    Casey on for AWB.

There’s literally nothing Fab could have done about that
If he was more to his right, he might have got across to it.
Well yeah, if he’d stood in that corner he’d have been right behind it too. I think there’s no blame on him there.
Any time a keeper gets beaten from that range it raises a question mark for me. He didn't need to be in the corner to save it, but if he was more central then he probably saves it.
  • Honors even, no shame in it and on balance probably a fair result, we might have bossed the first half but Bournemouth certainly came back into it in the second and I think we have Fabianski to thank for the point.

Summerville appears just to lightweight for this league and for me Paqueta does not do enough given his ability and as for Mavropanos how many more times?…….that being said the overall performance was far from the worst and I saw plenty of effort.

    Happy for the point

thorn, Has Todibo been injured for most of the season so far?

Can’t question the attitude of the players. Clearly a lot of effort in there. We are just way too exposed when we don’t have the ball, especially when we turn it over quickly. But a lot of West Ham fans wanted that type of game, hence the change from Moyes. Braver, more attacking, less sitting back.
  • Holding on would have been huge. We’d have been 3 points off the top 8.
  • Draw was a fair result. Bournemouth had 29 attempts, 9 on target against our 16 attempts 3 on target. They dominated the second half more than we did the first so I think we did well to come away with a point.

I also think we make way too many changes.

    Soler off too early
Wan-Bissaka over to the right side from the left
    Alvarez off - going from a midfield 3 to a 2
    Change to a 5-2-3
Going from no striker to then a number 9 hold up man

All in the second half. It can only disrupt the rhythm.
  • From post-match shenanigans, Fab's interview.

On being the oldest player in the Premier League: "I think it's something to be proud of. It's a credit to the way I've been consistent to training and preparation and looking after myself. I will just try to continue to work and enjoy myself."

  • They’ve beaten Man City, Arsenal & Spurs there. It’s a very good point. Back to back wins would have been HUGE, but it’s a very good point.
  • A wonder goal away from getting 3 points, away from home, vs one of the seasons best teams, deffo take that

Shame with what is going on with Tobido because he's such a huge improvement over Mavropanos who has a error leading to a goal in each game

Starting to see our style and shape and I'm liking what I'm seeing, hopefully we can do so with a proper centreforward I really want Bowen on the right where he's at his best
  • Only 3 new signings in that starting 11. The rest of the side all here last season under Moyes. Changing the style around & getting players like Alvarez & Soucek & Mavropanos & Coufal on the front foot, passing & pressing is not an easy thing to achieve.

    Patience still needed.
  • Todibo has not been fully fit for a few games now and according to various reports the injury he got at Newcastle has turned out to be worse than thought and he may not now be available until early 2025.
  • Work took over and I completely missed the game so was pleasantly surprised to see the result. Before the game I would have taken that result.
I've said it at the time and I'll say it again. We shouldn't have got rid of Diop. Of all the centre backs that have come in from Kehrer onwards, only Kilman has been an upgrade to Diop. Too early to say with Tobido. Plus Diop also came up with the odd goal on set plays. Something we are dearly missing since the departure of Zouma and Ogbonna. We don't seem to have the same threat in the air from corners.

Hard to argue against a draw being a fair result but without the 'Mavro Moment' I think we would have held out.

We are definitely looking better and picking up points. I can see the argument for letting Lopetgui go but as no one is going to have us pushing for Europe this season I feel it's worth seeing if he can complete the task given to him. That's what we would not find out if he goes now, could he have been good? At this point I don't see us going down and improvement is now happening. Let him have the season and if we don't look to be where we want to we may find the choice of new manager looks different then as well.
  • I’ve got a new thing I hate about VAR. Fullkrug’s chance in the move that led to the penalty no longer exists. According to the stats, that shot never happened. Which means when you see stats about Fullkrug’s season and they talk about goals vs xG, it will exclude that really glorious chance. As you all know, I’m a stats head, and this sort of undermines them a bit.
  • But surely you cant have two xG from the same situation?

Yeah of course, it’s just an unfortunate (and largely inconsequential) side effect. I just see a lot of reports and analysis that refers to a striker as a good or bad finisher based on their xG vs goals, and there’s obviously this hole in it

I don't think I agree on Diop, after his first 18 months his form really deteriorated and the season he left he was pretty woeful, he was quite simialr to Mavropanos in that he always had an error in him (from memory)

The healthy version of Zouma is what we really miss, not Diop

Tobido in his few appearances looks like he can be that guy... he just can't keep himself fit
  • MIA, agree on Diop. I always had the same impression of him as I now have with Mavropanos. There is a goal letting mistake in both of them happening too often.

We are trying to be more proactive in games. That is clear. More aggressive. Playing with more intensity. This is led by Lop who echoes these characteristics, rightly or wrongly, on the touchline. Are we perfect? No. Have we got it wrong more than right? Yes. If you think this is a seamless & quick transition after five years of a certain, ingrained style, & 8/11 players starting yesterday here under Moyes, you are wrong.

We have a lot of yellow cards (5 different suspensions, is it?), we commit a lot of fouls, we have a much higher line, we press & are aggressive (Mavro last night), our full-backs are incredibly high, we try & pass through the lines more.

The trade is that it does lead to us being open defensively. When we lose the ball, with full-backs high, try & be aggressive to win it back & play a high line, it allows teams who can move the ball quickly to open up spaces if only one aspect of those elements is off. If our press is wrong, if not all players press cohesively, if our back four is not in line or pushed up too far, if we lose the ball through a mistake.

I saw lots of good last night, especially in the first half. I saw lots of good at Newcastle, particularly in the second half. I saw lots of good at Leicester, all game, albeit we defended badly. Wolves was a ‘grind’.

Whether a show or not, Paquetá scored, ran to Lop & embraced. Souček has stated he likes what the manager is doing. Kilman supports the manager. He threw on a couple of youngsters at key moments in a tough away game with momentum against us.

I like Lop, I want to back him & think he deserves time. I like the fact he is more ruthless, I like the fact he calls players out for not doing enough, I like the fact he is always demanding more.

Let’s stick with him. I’ve seen enough recently to say he’ll get it right, but it will take time.
  • I agree Lukerz. I other thing for me is if we look to appoint a new man at this point I think we are looking at who is available and none of them excite me. If he is given the season he either turns it around and we look forward to a better season with a better start next season or we enter the managerial market with more availability in the summer.

I do agree we look more of a team these last few matches and so maybe Lopetgui is managing and changing players view points, getting them on board? Kudus looks better since he has returned and Soler growing into the team. We need to see whats happening with Tobido as he is a big player and we really need him, so hopefully Lopetgui can patch up his differences with him and get him playing at his best.

  • I quite liked that he threw on a couple of youngsters in defensive positions last night when there was still something to play for.
  • It must be pretty dispiriting for Andy Irving to be stuck on the bench while kids get a chance

Just 60 minutes this season, wouldn't be surprised if he's off in January
  • Not sure Andy Irvine is the future.

Not sure about Andy Irvine , either the Scottish rugby player or the Irish folk singer but I reckon Andy Irving must be wondering if he has any future at West Ham

As for the kids the Academy of Football hasn’t produced many graduates that were good enough for the top flight in the last 20 years.

  • Andy Irving is only 24 and as we’ve hardly seen him I can’t make a judgement as to whether he will make it with us or not. That’s up to Lopetigui

Neither are Fabianski, Mavrapanos or Soucek but they keep being selected.
