He's still a young kid playing a position where mistakes are costly and on loan at a side that has more to play for than us (well, maybe not in our current position). It doesn't mean he's not good.

You may well be right but he wasn't considered good enough for Reading last season which is more of a worry.

They were fighting for promotion. Again, a lot at stake. I think when teams loan players in, it's almost always as a back-up option, it doesn't mean someone isn't good enough. That's even more the case with young players - they assume the risks associated with their development but probably wont be able to sign them permanently if they do well.

I genuinely feel it's going to be up to us to show we can trust him. I think the only level of loan deal that would work is one where the team will really need him, like Bolton with Burke. Otherwise we need to do it ourselves. With Obiang and Collins injured, we've got two positions he could fill in and learn his game. Playing 3 at the back, mistakes might not be so costly and we know he can play DM. (Personally, I don't consider that playing out of position because it still suits his attributes).

I don't disagree, but in that scenario we've got then 2 young players with the same needs/risks/positions. Are we the sort of team, in our current situation, where we can develop 2 such players in the 1st team at the same time? ;hmm

Probably not, so maybe one needs to go on loan - but to a lower Championship side that needs the cover imo.

I'd rather see Oxford because I think he's the more mobile and I feel I've seen a bit more from him - but there's not that much between them, I guess.

Even though the loads haven't worked I think you can see they've targeted clubs where they think he'd get a higher level of football - to me, that shows the club do believe he has talent and they're trying to fast-track his progress.

On the other hand, if we are going to continue with three at the back then maybe we can develop both. We'll need cover for injuries and a sitting DM.

He is still staying until end of Dec apparently. May yet get game time. A shame it hasn't worked out as well as hoped. I still feel there is a strong future for him.

Be interesting what we do with him come Jan, whether we try to get him a new loan or keep him for the rest of the season. As MrsG says I'm not sure if we can blood two youths in the same position in one season, but if they are doing the business in training - give them a go. As long as we pull away from the relegation zone, we definitely aren't going to challenge for european places this season so it doesn't matter if we finish 9th or 15th due to mistakes as we give them chances.

He's played the last 2 games for Borussia Monchengladbach (played the full 90 mins in one and in the other he played for over 80 minutes). One game he played at right back and one game in central midfield.

I feel that if he was in England right now, Moyes would use him. Especially as we are a bit light in midfield and Moyes gives youth players a bit more of a chance.
