Between him and Martinez think we've got a bit of cover up front as far as straight up strikers go the academy doesn't really have a standout atm
So (hopefully) Bacca, Carroll, Fletcher & Martinez filling up the forward options, think only 1 more is needed
West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of promising striker Ashley Fletcher from Manchester United.
;run
Underwhelmed
"Hammers sign prolific striker" ;wahoo
How prolific then?! ;wahoo
"Fletcher’s ability and promise saw Barnsley take the 20-year-old on loan in January 2016, a decision they would certainly not regret as the Yorkshireman amassed nine goals and four assists in 27 appearances in all competitions."
;hmm
Nice to see us getting behind the new lads
A lot of them thought he could have had a impact like rashford has as they were rated similarly at youth level, thought he was at least good enough for a squad role
If we can get half the player Rashford is looking like he's going to become it'll be £700k well spent
Depends how you look at it.
He scored 9 goals and got 4 assists while he was on loan for the 2nd half of the season, for a club that got promoted to the Championship. In the course of which he scored a goal in the play-offs.
Clearly signed as one for the (not too distant) future, and seems to me to be a step up on Elliot Lee.
Read the comments almost all of them upset he's gone and one poster described him as amomg the cream of the crop of their current youngsters
So quietly optimistic of this deal
As an aside it would have been interesting to have seen if Slav could have done anything with Rav as he looks very able to build relationships with players.
Think he builds people up and is often described by players as a father figure... Probably what Rav needs, Sam and Sir Alex seem more of a strict management style rather than the one of us relationship bilic builds...
Think Slav can be strict when needed to be, so wouldn't of come across so much of a push over like the more inexperienced Clarke...
But we will never know...
“Fletcher and [Toni] Martinez are prospects,” Bilic said about his young forwards. .... we are competing in the Premier League and they are still too young.
“Some of them can do what [Marcus] Rashford did for Man United last season, but to play a full season with them from the start would not be the option we want. They can emerge and surprise and amaze us and the league, like Rashford, but we are still looking to get a striker if we can, but only if he is a better striker than what we have.
