West Ham v Fulham, Saturday 27th December, 15:00

It's ages since I've started a match thread, and I'm hoping to go on a long run this time.

The first of three games in a short space of time, so come on lads, let's get the ball rolling with a win

  • At least Fulham have also lost some players to AFCON. Bassey and Iwobi have both been regular starters (Iwobi all 16 PL games prior to Saturday, Bassey 15 starts and subbed on in the other) and Chukwueze has been getting increasing minutes as the season has gone on.

    Areola
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Todibo - Scarles
    Potts - Magassa - Souček
    Bowen - Wilson - Fernandes

Leave out Paquetá & Summerville who are currently offering nothing.
  • Personally I wouldn't mess with the midfield 3 of Potts, Fernandes and Magassa unless I really had to. Summerville, although he's struggling for end product, does provide an out when we're under pressure and does offer a threat so I'd stick with him atm.
  • Areola / KWP Mavropanos Todibo Scarles / Magassa Potts Fernandes / Bowen Paqueta Summerville, for me.

Outlet’s are no good when they keep running down blind alleys & being dispossessed. Especially when you are losing. Wilson has 4 goals this season in only a handful of starts. We need goals. He has to play.
  • I would play 5 at the back with Summerville and Walker-Peters as wing backs.

But an outlet that doesn’t produce much is still better than no way to release pressure. Summerville is frustrating but we need some pace to help us get up the pitch.

Wilson should come in for Paqueta.

It depends what they offer. Do they keep possession? Slow the game down? Score? Great delivery?

Summerville offers none of those except pace that sees him run up the pitch. I’m sure he will play as he is probably the best we have - which says all we need to know about our squad strength - but he is not producing. 1 goal in 31 games? Although, maybe with Diouf out, he is worth sticking with.
  • I actually thought Paqueta was our MOM on Saturday, hey, what do I know.......
  • And so did 1 other or maybe 2 🤔
Depending on how you count 😜
  • I was one of those 2 or 3
  • So our fight for survival starts here and it really is in our own hands this month.
Next four matches for each side is as follows.

West Ham - Fulham, Wolves, Brighton, Forest
Leeds - Sunderland, Liverpool, Man Utd, Newcastle
Forest - City, Everton, Villa, West Ham
Burnley - Everton, Brighton , Newcastle, Man Utd
Wolves - Liverpool, Man Utd, West Ham, Everton
  • Winning the next two games will get us out of the bottom three only if Forest lose their next two games.

  • 10 points needed from those 4 games

Fulham are 4th for league form over the last six games, 4 wins (Sunderland H, Spurs A, Burnley A, Forest H) and 2 loses (City H, Palace A) although you can also throw in losing away to Newcastle in the Carabao quarters.

The squad is almost unchanged from last season, only one regular starter left, 29yo Brazilian CM Andreas Pereira joined Palmeiras and a few fringe players have gone

Fulham did break their club record by signing Brazilian U20 LW Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk for £34.6m. He'd only had three starts in the Premier League before Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze (on loan from AC Milan) left for the AFCON but since then he's started both games against Newcastle and Forest.

As Buffy said Calvin Bassey is also at the AFCON and he's been replaced with Jorge Cuenca who joined summer 2024 but has only had 20 appearances to date.

The only other new arrivals are Swedish U21 CF Jonah Kusi-Asare (on loan Bayern Munich) who has made just 5 appearances with no starts and back up GK Benjamin Lecomte (£0.5m Montpelier) who has been in goal for Cup games

LB Ryan Sessegnon and CF Rodrigo Muniz are both injured. Top scorer Harry Wilson had to be substituted on Monday with a knee problem, was replaced by Adam Traore and will be assessed this week

    Starting XI v Forest

    Leno
    Tete Anderson Cuenca Robinson
    Lukic Berge
    Wilson Smith-Rowe Kevin
    Jimenez

Marco Silva is the 3rd longest serving Premier League manager, only Pep and Arteta have been in their jobs longer

    Stability, etc.
  • In our favor, you cannot say we haven’t been consistant……….ummmmm
  • We have to win this, if we bring our A game we may have a chance. Fulham are very underrated; everybody fancies their chances against them but they always pick points up regularly.
  • Absolutely nothing in Nuno's presser, a complete waste of time.
  • What do you want? Starting XI?

No, but it was less than two and a half minutes long, what was the point?
  • He probably agrees. It's an obligation they have to fulfil but I'm sure most managers would rather not.
  • It’s 4 days before the game so there wouldn’t have been much for him to say. He might just as well have added repeat what I just said for the Brighton game next Tuesday.
  • I agree it's just obligatory and not of any real importance as he couldn't be expected to divulge anything of note beside injuries etc. As with the post match interviews, they have to do them but if they speak freely and criticise the officials they will likely get fined so most just go through the motions. One or two enjoy a camera on them but most are just meeting obligations.
  • Marco Silva on Harry Wilson "We are still assessing him and we will make a decision after the next session"
  • Areola, Walker-Peters, Kilman, Todibo, Scarles, Potts, Magassa, Fernandes, Paquetá, Summerville, Bowen ©
Subs: Hermansen (GK), Mavropanos, Golambeckis, Mayers, Rodríguez, Kanté, Souček, Earthy, Wilson

    Unchanged starting XI.
  • My only issue personally is Kilman being in.
  • Wilson starts for Fulham, same starting XI as last weekend
  • Wilson has to start for me -

Disappointing that Wilson isn't starting for WHU. We play better with a centre-forward. Paqueta is inconsistent but due a decent game. Jiménez is a bogey opponent.
  • Seems as though Bowen is playing through the middle with Paqueta on the right, rather than Paqueta as a false 9.
