End of Season MOTM Summary

I'm sure at the very least Buffy will be interested in this, so I'm sharing the spreadsheet for this years MOTM voting.

As a reminder, I started doing this because I heard a Brentford fan on a podcast talk about them doing it on a forum to determine their player of the year without too much recency bias. The rules are that the player with the most votes in a match gets 3 points, second place gets 2 points, and third gets 1. If there are fewer than 8 votes in a match, nobody gets any points. Should people tie, there are tiebreakers to help get a final ranking (all in the spreadsheet listed in the top right corner in 'Ranking Rules').

A little summary of the season:
- Unsurprisingly, Bowen (49pts) and Wan-Bissaka (40pts) came miles ahead of all others. Soucek came in third place with 18points.
- Bowen also had the most individual nominations (131), was nominated in 66.7% of his appearances.
- Bowen & AWB were both voted MOTM 9 times, a tie for first place.
- Interestingly with Soucek, he had only received two individual votes before Potter joined, and went on to get MOTM three times.

The top 10:
1. Bowen - 49pts
2. Wan-Bissaka - 40pts
3. Soucek - 18pts
4. Summerville - 17pts
5. Kudus - 17pts
6. Todibo - 12pts
7. Kilman - 12pts
8. Paqueta - 11pts
9. Fabianski - 8pts
10. Soler - 8pts

  • Excellent stuff as always (especially with your recent accident, btw, how are you recovering?).

Was a two horse race from fairly early on I'm sure, two bight sparks in a generally fairly dismal campaign. Summerville did well considering he's missed half the season and was lightly used even before that. Also interesting that Todibo has the same number of points as Kilman despite playing a whole lot less.

AWB rightly runs away with best signing.

Had another x-ray this morning, seemingly recovery is going well. Three weeks left in the cast. Thanks for asking

    Good news 👍.

  • That feels about right, but a surprise in Summerville picking up so many points in only half a season, and that bodes well for him next season if getting back to full fitness.

The results make clear what I think most would feel in that Bowen is our star man, who we rely on more than is healthy. That Wan-Biissaka has been the success story of last summers business, Kudus and Paquetta have underperformed compared to last season, Soucek is Mr Reliable and with the exception of Summerville in his brief spell in the side all other signings were a bit of a let down and put in few performances that merited remark.

We never quite know who was responsible for our signings last summer from Lopetgui, Tim or Sully but collectively they failed improve us as a side, there is still hope some of them may come good in their second season however.

Thanks Alderz for all the effort to produce this through the season.

I suspect there's a similar story here to what happened with Kudus last year. Both arrived for big money with high expectations, both started the seasons on the bench, and had impressive cameos off the bench. I think their numbers are boosted by a bit of frustration people feel about the new toy not starting.
  • That is an interesting stat re Soucek, I think that I had noticed that Potter allowed him a freer rein going forward as a disrupting force.

I certainly think he relished the role of ghosting in from deep and making a nuisance of himself
