I do agree performance was good - as it was at Villa (in cup & league). But the more you play well & lose, the confidence does start to go.
We need bodies back quickly, we’ll be fine with Bowen etc & not be dragged into a relegation scrap but battling for 15th or 13th is all it’s going to be unless we start churning out points these performances deserve.
I am convinced the equaliser was offside - there was a touch - but because of this ‘needs to be absolutely obvious’ rule it’s hard to overrule the referee. The Bowen ‘foul’ took place way too early in the move so was never going to get looked at. Then the deflected cross for the second goal. We need a bit of luck at the moment & we’re not getting it.
So much to like about that performance and results will come if we keep playing like that. We were unlucky tonight and a draw was the fair result regard performances of both sides, and we would likely have got that were it not for poor officials once again.
I think our best three performances this season have been the last two matches and the Newcastle match which bodes well for the rest of the season.
As for the officials they just need a memo that says, referee the match according to the rules. It doesn't matter that he wasn't going to get the ball or anything else. He acted like an American football blocker and that's a foul. Please apply the rules the same throughout the pitch and in all situations, we don't need you to consider anything other than the rule, if its a foul its a foul.
Scarles looks ready for a start to me. He stopped Netto getting his crosses in, which Emerson didn't in the build up to the 1st goal.
Ooh interesting. I felt that Neto made me think Scarles isn’t ready. I thought he looked out of his depth tonight, defensively. But all about the onions.
Feel pretty positive after that, by any measure we were really unlucky not to take something from the game and a point feels like it would have been fully deserved.
Team definitely looks more organized and the players seem to be playing more for each other rather than as individuals
Thought Soler was out of place today, probably would have brought him off for Ings earlier but I am encouraged by Scarles and Orford, this season is pretty much cooked for us so giving them a proper run in the team makes a lot of sense to me.
Am not worried at all about the rest of the season and am looking forward to what comes next with enthusiasm.
I am so impressed with Bowen as he just keeps getting better which speaks so much of his attitude, he was obviously a good player when he first came but is so much better now. It's not all that common to find top players who still improve, It's what really struck me about Rice is he was almost improving match on match at one point.
We have looked a little lacking threat whilst Bowen has been away but tonight he looked like the rest had done him good and he wanted attack them every time he got the ball.
I don't get the offside law, and Soucek probably agrees. A week ago the ball comes back off their goalkeeper, and Soucek is offside. Yesterday the ball may have brushed Soucek's head on the way to a clearly offside player, and it's onside. Michael Salisbury, please explain.
If a player is in an offside position but the ball touches an opponent who makes an attempt to play the ball it puts the player onside. If it touches him accidentally he stays offside. Jumping for the ball would be deliberate.

Which makes the Soucek goal onside. That's the one I can't compute.

How do you feel about the referees performance
Referee was poor
Not thrashed. Ref poor. Lads going for it.

It’s a shame the likes of Summerville & Paquetá weren’t available today.
Hopefully we can field a better 11 against Brentford as we could do with a win in that.
Proud of that performance.
I hate losing to them.😡
