Boxing - Usyk Vs Fury 2

I know we have a few Boxing fans among us so I thought I would start a thread for this fight.

I think it will be fascinating to see how each fighter has been able to learn from the first fight as I think both came away from the fight with one main question. I think Fury has to try and work out how to keep Usyk at distance, it's something his physical size should make easy enough, and has made the difference in most of his fights, but in the last fight, although it wasn't easy, Usyk was able to get through and hurt him. I put this down to Usyk's amazing footwork, something so underrated but so often the difference in fights.

I think Usyk has to try and ensure that Fury cannot land the upper cut, the problem is the height and reach difference which means Usyk sometimes has to open up his body and almost make himself long to land a shot, which can leave him open to upper cuts, a shot Fury lands very well.

I was concerned the lack of composure Fury had at the end of the face off yesterday and if he doesn't start well I fear his head could go, he looks like someone who doubts himself now, which I don't think he did before. He does however have a huge size advantage, which was also evident at the face off.

I don't think the fight will go the distance this time and I just about edge it to Usyk.

  • I think Fury will turn out to be better prepared than last time, and I think he'll be more serious in the ring too. It was close on the scorecards last time, so with some marginal improvements I think Fury wins although I agree, I don't think it goes the judges this time.
  • Btw, interesting category you've picked for the thread, which one is or used to be a "Player" or "Staff"? πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚
  • I'm not sure quite what we can take from the weigh in, apart from the fact that, hardly surprisingly, Fury is a good bit the heavier of the two; seeing as both were fully clothed, including a leather jacket for Fury, the scales weren't really painting a particularly accurate picture.

Usyk giving those TomÑő Řepka vibes

I had no idea I chose one! That said I would happily have Usyk as a fitness coach at West Ham and maybe Fury as an imposing centre half.
  • 6 rounds in, I've got them level so far.

Lots of close rounds, but I think Usyk won the 11th and just edged the 12th to win 115-113; I had them level after 10 rounds.
  • It goes 116-112 for Usyk on all 3 cards.
  • It’s 8-4 Usyk
  • Had it 7-5 Usyk, similar to the first fight where Tyson had his moments but the consistent work came from Usyk who jsut kept upping the tempo everytime Fury had some success
  • I think I need watch that back tomorrow as though a judge counting scoring shots. I thought they got the first fight perfect regarding the scoring but this one feels off. I agreed with Richie Woodall out of the commentary team in that it felt like a draw, or either fighter by a round, I cant see a four point victory.

I felt both were very cautious, Fury wanted to win by keeping him off and Usyk was too careful when he could have pressed forward a few times. In the eleventh Usyk caught him and stood off, he needed go for him at that point but for some reason stood back again. Both earned each others respect in the first fight and that in a way made this one less of a fight, the last was a fight, this more a chess match.

Yeah, that's how I scored it too. I think there were a lot of close rounds, but Usyk tended to finish most of them the stronger, and I think that helped him edge those rounds. In the old days a lot of those would have been 10-10 rounds, but they don't like judges to score them like that these days. Either way, I think Usyk did just edge the fight, Fury was too concerned with being hit (as he was in the first fight) to fight at his best (kinda like how AJ has never been the same since the defeat to Andy Ruiz).
  • Difficult to determine what a scoring shot was seeing as Fury had his shorts pulled up under his armpits.
