  • Antonio involved in a traffic accident, according to the club. Hope he's ok.
  • I saw a tweet of a totalled Ferrari in which it said that the driver had to be airlifted to hospital. Regardless of whether he was the driver of that car or not I hope he is ok (or will be ok in time).
  • Way the announcement was phrased made it sound serious.

If the photos I've seen are of his car and are genuine, it's very serious.
  • Mentioned on national news, so may well be bad ☹️

It sounds like he could be in trouble

Prayers with him & his family
  • Yeh...the manager, the results, means nothing in all honesty....I'm not a praying person...But at times like these.....COY Antonio....
  • Clearly it is nasty, made a special announcement on the sports news this morning following the games shown, puts things into perspective.

Thinking of him and his family

I hope this is the genuine club account:

"West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area.

Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital.

At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family.

The Club will make no further comment this evening, but will issue a further update in due course."

    🤞🤞🤞

On the OS now, good news:

  • Get well soon Michail. We need you.

  • Get well soon Michail. We need you.

I suspect he won't be available for a good while, if ever. The main thing is that he's stable and hopefully won't have life changing injuries.

  • Such horrible, horrible news.
    C’mon Mickey.
    ❤️⚒️❤️⚒️❤️⚒️❤️
  • Goodness knows I've slagged him off often enough in the last couple of years, but I truly hope he's saved a final "beast mode" performance for his recovery as a man not a player 🤞🤞🤞.
  • I hope he recovers but I reckon he won't ever play again.
  • I wonder if he'll ever play PL again. Obvs we wait to hear how he is (hoping he's going to be fully physically ok in time). But the recovery time then need to train back to full fitness... And then his age, etc.

But I really would like the club to do everything they can to support him, and even if he can't play for us again, to find him a role. Or help with finding a new contract with another club, if he's wanting to carry on playing professionally.

The message of him conscious and communicating is so positive as were these injuries of the worst kind he would certainly be sedated still at this time. At 34 it wouldn't take much to ensure he never played again and we can only hope he recovers his health to enjoy his retirement now. It will be a happy day when he takes to the pitch at the London Stadium and can allow the fans to say thank you. He really has been a great servant to the club.
  • Honestly I’m not thinking about him as playing again tonight.
    There’s more important things.

Puts it all into perspective. Come on Michail, now’s the time for that strength and spirt. We are all thinking of you. ⚒
  • For all - I’ve split the Antonio comments into their own thread, which you can find here.

  • Posted on KUMB by someone that often comes up with accurate transfer news (ie it seems likely that he has some contacts within the club):

    2 broken legs
    Concussion
    Bruised ribs

Operation on 1 of the legs today

    July earliest
  • Is his contract up in the summer .In which case he won't play for us again .Perhaps not for anyone

Yeah, his contract is up in the summer.

Obviously what I posted about his injuries isn't anything official, but it does come from a source that is fairly reliable in transfer related stuff otherwise I wouldn't have posted it here. It could be that he doesn't come through the surgeries in any shape to even consider a return to playing, and it's equally possible that he wouldn't have been offered a contract for next season even without the accident. I guess it's even possible he'll be offered a nominal contract for next season as a rehab incentive, but really it's way too early (despite what I've just written) to speculate at this stage.

The main thing is he appears to have survived relatively (given the state of his car) intact and, it seems, without major internal injuries; let's just hope he at least recovers well enough to be a loving and active dad even if he never plays again.
  • If he really has broken both his legs, at his age and the recovery period needed. You would expect thats his professional career over. Would be nice to see him take up a coaching role with the club or another ambassador role alongside Carlton.
  • Antonio and Wilson could be the new Greaves and Hughes .Us older people will know what I am talking about =)
  • I think I do Steve, but I remember it as Saint and Greavesy.
  • I believe Antonio is out of contract this summer but the club has a 1 year option, which I cant see them taking up.
  • Oh dear .your right Herb .More pills please nurse
  • Latest update on the OS:

"West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon (7 December 2024).

Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.

Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery.

The Club will provide further updates when appropriate."

  • Two broken legs? 34 years old? He's slowly becoming West Ham's dream striker signing!

In all seriousness, though, really puts things in perspective. all digits crossed for him.
