Injuries thread 23/24

We've been very lucky with injuries so far this season, until now it would seem, although we have seen a lot of players miss games through "illness". Currently we have 5 issues in addition to Zouma's ongoing knee problems.

Paqueta - calf, apparently due to see a specialist, suggested out of a month
Bowen - ankle, from Sunday's game, awaiting news
Mavropanos - rib, also from Sunday's game
Antonio - knee, been out since November, and just suffered a setback in training, 4-6 weeks
Kudus - hamstring, although unavailable through AFCON atm, the concern is he'll be risked when not fully recovered and will make the injury worse.

  • Doomed i tell you Doomed =) .........good job we have 34 points =)
  • Suggestions that Bowen will be out for 4 weeks, and that Mavropanos might not be too bad (apparently holidaying with his girlfriend in a ski resort).
  • Europa league is the biggest priority for us this year, and those fixtures are I think the back end of Feb or even early March

But a bit of a crisis, especially offensively for the next 4 weeks or so
  • Very concerned.
    - Fornals, Benny, Aguerd could be sold.
    - Bowen, Paqueta, Antonio, Mavropanos are injured
    - Kudus at AFCON
    - Ings I am sure will be offloaded.
    -Kehrer on loan.

We could be bare bones without Jan signings or quick recoveries from injury.

    😬

  • Ex and others say Aguerd would only be allowed to leave if we had secured a replacement with Kilman apparently the No.1 contender
  • Come on its not all that bad Ings will now get a run of games =) ,,.....Okay it is that bad
  • On the BBC now.

Paqueta to miss 'at least' two months, and Bowen expected to miss the Bristol City and Sheffield United games.

  • Well at lest no one will buy him in Jan .not that anyone would with the betting thing still going on
  • Dreadful news if true, although I'm not sure how they determine it will be at least 2 months when he's "set to see a specialist to determine the extent of the problem"; seems unlikely they would already know how long he'll be out for until he's seen the specialist. There may be an underlying issue anyway, but I suggested he should not be risked for the Bristol City game beforehand.

Wrt Bowen, have seen 3 months mentioned, and that he might be back for Bournemouth on 1st Feb.

Current possible return dates (based on whatever I've read):

Paqueta - 7th Feb to 7th March (prefer to think it will be towards the earlier date)
Bowen - 1st Feb to 7th April (got a bad feeling it's going to be at least 2 months)
Mavropanos - Very little out there, optimistically back for Sheffield Utd 21st Jan
Antonio - 2nd Feb to 16th Feb. Given he was out for 2 weeks originally, later rather than earlier imo
Kudus - 15th Feb (based on deep run in AFCON and hopefully no further probs)
  • Antonio's latest was an accident in training, wasn't it? Unrelated to the original injury?
  • The same report that says Paqueta COULD be out for 'at least 2 months' (BBC seemed to be quoting, but no attribution) says Bowen will miss a couple of games...

Who says 3 months - how reliable are they and where are they getting their information from?

All this stuff makes me fume!

  • calm down MrsGrey .A nice glass of Red will do the trick =)

As far as I know, the slip aggravated the original injury, I don't think it was something completely new.

First of all, I did say it was just stuff I'd read.

Secondly, if the 3 months is about Bowen, there are a couple of separate, often reliable, ITKs on KUMB who have reported it.
  • 6 weeks would be very bad. I reckon he’ll be back sooner than that but still a significant period of time.

We could do with a creative player on loan.
  • I would hope they are looking for a couple of loans now and even if it means a fee and decent wages It could be essential to maintain momentum for the season. It's a hard task however as they would likely come from Champions League teams squad players who are not getting match time. A player who wants to play and possibly put himself in the window for the summer, few and far between however.
  • Mail (via Skysports) says: Lucas Paqueta has dismissed claims he could be out of action for 'at least two months' with a calf injury.
  • Coutinho's been a bit of a donkey for a time and he's back from a loan I believe... #incoming

    Wrong thread
  • I dunno, he's got that sicknote about him. Jut getting there in advance ;)
  • Reports in the Metro that Bowen's injury might not be as bad as feared, with the above mentioned "optimistic" date of 1st Feb (match against Bournemouth) being touted as a possible return.
  • The initial reports were that Bowen would miss Bristol and Sheffield so back for Bournemouth would be right
  • It puzzles me that Callum Marshall has yet to be introduced to the first team, he’s scoring goals for fun and would surely be worth a punt, given that we have so many injuries as well.
  • Mavropanos in training today, Bowen due back for Bournemouth & Paqueta rubbishing reports of a two month lay-off.

    #happydays
  • Academy and development level football is a million light years away from PL level and because someone bangs in goals at that level means very little. Mubama does it but seemed totally lost for most of Sunday.
That’s why very few players come through the ranks for most clubs.
  • Jason Steinberg reporting that Bowen might be back for Sheffield United 🤞🤞🤞
  • Mavropanos is also training so no worries there. Just Paqueta as the unknown.

    Updates:
Paqueta - Haven't seen anything recent on him other than suggestions it won't be 2 months out
Bowen - Is back 21st Jan, hopefully he's not been rushed back
Mavropanos - Was back 16th Jan
Antonio - Nothing new that I've seen
Kudus - Was back 18th Jan, hopefully fully healed

    New:
Alvarez - Calf issue (apparently), misses his second game today, very little reported so far
