There's no doubting that David Gold had a definite affinity with the club, and that he probably curbed some of the initial excesses of David Sullivan and Karren Brady, although it's felt to me that he's been very much in the background of decision making at the club for some time.
I read his autobiography that was published as an online book some years ago, I think many on here also did. He was bought up in absolute poverty and was a genuine life long West Ham United supporter.
David Gold was a true gentleman and loved the club. An examplary club owner who really cared - not many are like that these days. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace...
