Just back from Madeira where Covid is taken very seriously. Even for the Christmas market and the sea front fun fair your vaccination certificate AND negative test were required for entry. The government there offer free testing to everyone, tourists included, but if you don't have a certificate of a negative test and vaccination record you're fairly restricted in where you can go or what to do.
- Participating in/attending activities/events - (Vaccination Certificate AND Rapid Antigen Test required as November 27th) to participate in or attend public and private sector activities, events including sports, restaurants, hairdressers, gyms, bars and clubs, cultural events, cinemas, nightlife activities, games, casinos, and other similar activities, people must be vaccinated and be tested every 7 days.
Things seems so bad but I doubt they’ll suspend easily. They didn’t for the Alpha variant which caused a lot of deaths and so I think they’ll try to ride this out as long as possible to see whether it’s less deadly than previous variants.
Won’t know for some time if it’s less deadly than other variants. South Africa claim it’s a mild illness but they are behind in their vaccinations so most people have only just been vaccinated and therefore have fresh immunity. Also the average age there is about 27 so a much younger demographic. Across Africa as a whole the average age is about 19 so it’s difficult to use there as a definite indication.
Further to the issue of checking at matches, I spotted this in an article about Brighton.. “ While we were only required to randomly check 20% of those attending, a combination of randomly pre-selecting home fans for Covid pass checks, and a series of further random checks at turnstiles for home and away fans, allowed us to far exceed our target,” said chief executive Paul Barber.
I read that a significamt percentage of players are choosing not to have the jab. Does anyone know what percentage of the West Ham squad have been jabbed? Klopp says 99% of his squad are vaccinated

Hmm. A PL squad is maximum 25 players, 99% of that is 24.75. One of them is only three-quarters vaccinated.
They should all be double jabbed, and boosted. If I have to get frisked, show personal health information to an unqualified stranger and wear a mask just to be allowed to watch them it is the least they should do. There will be exemptions, which is fine, but with 60% of hospitalised covid patients being unjabbed they need to make the effort. It's a disgrace.
i honestly don't see how they can continue the league... these players testing positive aren't going to be available until after Xmas, and maybe not even then fit to play.

The registered senior squad is max 25, but U23 players don’t need to be registered, so if you include the U23 first team players that boosts it, and if you include the PL2 squad that boosts it some more.
I am not sure they set any rules such as 16 squad players available plus a goalkeeper, and allowing u23 keepers to be temporarily added as necessary. This gives a set cut off to be able to play or not. If they say they will use a case by case basis it's harder to refuse.
Football aside it's not a bad thing to call them off as it can't be helpful packing 40k people together at this time. It's like we learnt nothing from the Cheltenham festival fiasco.
In October Premier League reported that 81% of players had received a single vaccination and 68% had received two which was slightly more than the average for UK men aged 20-30
Those figures have probably gone up in the last two months
rel="Kuchinghammer">FIA, UEFA.... and next, the EPL. Unless they lay down clear rules for Covid postponements, and apply them to all clubs, the fixture list will become a complete shambles. So, shambles it is. ...
PL announce there'll be no suspension of the league.
There are, apparently, talks between clubs and authorities to scrap FA Cup replays in rounds three and four, and to reduce EFL Cup semi-final ties to one-leg matches.
I can't attend the southampton game but i didn't get the usual email from the club asking if i cannot attend you can relist it on ticket exchange.? I wonder if it's something to do with showing a covid pass?

Absolute joke.

Which seems sensible.
