I am sure that this is all just a terrible misunderstanding and that he will be welcomed back before a Foreign Office spokesman can say "A huge investment in UK infrastructure projects with associated job creation".

Another of Putin's mates has been denied a visa by the USA so it looks like being Russian and rich doesn't open the doors quite the way it used to. Jersey offered him residency but he hasn't taken it up yet
