What I think people are alluding to is that technically you cease to be a knight when you're dead, even if you were knighted in your lifetime! It's membership of an order of chivalry and when you die, you cease to be a member. Hence no posthumous knighthoods.
Of course all these rules are entirely artificial, so they can change or bend them if they decide to, but this has traditionally been the case.
