I will be the first to admit that I thought him going back to Everton was a massive gamble with more downside than upside - he risked damaging his reputation there but no doubt about it , he has pulled it off and fair play to him
@Slacker, Yes, it was the managers that replaced him that were the problem.
Yup , not renewing the contract of our most successful manager since Lyall wasn’t the problem it was replacing him with managers that failed, is that right? Honestly I despair.
Leeds v Brentford finished goalless, so they've got another point in the bank. They do seem to have the easiest run in, but they haven't scored in their last 4 PL matches.
No @Slacker that wasn't the problem. I too despair continually hearing from all his mates in the media how good he is/was. There has been a lot written about why is went wrong at the end of his time at West Ham and I have no wish to go over it all again.
The decision to seek push on beyond Moyes wasn't the problem it really was the choice they made to replace him, I don't think many who may have recognised the ambition in a change would have wanted Lopetgui (no one did from what I recall), whilst a few would have been happy with Potter.
I love Moyes as a manager and a man but I could see why we may have wanted to try and push on, at the time I posted how I could see both arguments and would have been happy had he stayed and happy to try and push on. His stats were not looking good once Dec left if I remember. It could be argued that having Rice was a large part of that particular high point in our recent history. I don't think many supporters would choose to have Moyes back over Rice if only able to choose one, I think most recognise the difference he made. Which isn't knocking Moyes at all he was a great manager for us.
On what I have seen if we could go into next season with either Moyes or Nuno I would choose Nuno. I would go further and say If Nuno leads us to safety with these players from the position he inherited I would say it's is a bigger managerial feat than winning a Conference Cup, playing who we did with Declan Rice running our midfield. It could be argued that having Rice was a large part of that particular high point in our recent history.
Spurs drawing with Liverpool last weekend didn't show how good Spurs were. Liverpool drawing with spurs and losing to Brighton shows how poor Liverpool are right now
As for Moyes the question is who could we have replaced him with who was an improvement?
Ruben Amorim flew to London for negotiations but rejected the offer and Paolo Fonseca unsurprisingly chose AC Milan over us
Marco Silva stayed at Fulham, Maurizio Sarri went back to Lazio three months after they'd sacked him and Steve Cooper took over at Leicester (he only lasted 4 months).
Graham Potter was another name floating around as a replacement. Whatever happened to him?
Basically we ended up Lopetegui because at the time he was the best we could get.

Was he an improvement of Moyes? No
