    I was out this evening, so checking the score on the train on my way home.

    My thinking was..
    Home just after the match finishes. We've won..
    Cheese on toast and a glass of🍷. Wallow in the cosy glow of the match reports before bed.

    That didn't go according to plan, but my lovely Everton supporting friend messaged me to say he was rooting for us. And he kindly talked me through the pens as I couldn't look.

    Although, his " Oof, penalty saved" comment could have done with being a bit more specific!!!!!

    Great twin. Now hoping that Summerville is OK. Also good to see Pablo get some minutes under his belt. Brentford had a very soft penalty.

    It’s us - we all know Summerville won’t be a minor one, it’ll be at least 4 weeks like we usually get with any injury to a key player

    That was strange to watch those penalties as it was mentally impossible to not want to win that shoot out but I really didn't want to win the opportunity to have to play Leeds for the privilege of getting knocked out in the semi's by a big club when every single match is a cup final just to stay up at present.

    I will happily come on here and eat the biggest piece of humble pie if I am wrong.

    The two stand out things now it's done is I really hope we haven't crocked Summerville for that, and were I a Brentford player who has just given all for 120minutes I would be fuming at yet another show off penalty that goes wrong. Did they not watch the African Final? Miss or get saved with a well struck penalty, no problem, but try and show off then it's absolutely on you.

    Listened to it on the radio, shades of 1980 when I listened to the semi final replay, swore then that I would never do that again.

    By all accounts we played well and gave it our all, delighted that Mavro scored the decisive penalty - he properly deserved that

    Not so, not in this case though, but you can't win the ball with what is considered to be a reckless challenge.

    It was a great win against a very good side & a lot of players played well - we have some guts about us as well as quality. But a lot of that quality comes from Summerville & him being in the form of his life.

    Let’s hope he’s not out for 6 weeks or more. We have an international break shortly. It may have been a dead leg or tight calf but he wasn’t in any of the celebration videos.

    Really was impressed with Kante in his 1st half performance, Magassa came on and was somewhat out of sorts and rusty, not saying Kante is the next big thing, but he definitely impressed me last night......COYI....( Was also nice to see Adama get involved and put in a good performance )....

    That was Mavro's first goal for West Ham! He's gone from being a scapegoat to approaching legend status this season, and deserves all the 👍👍👍he gets.

    I managed to catch extra time and you could see how much it meant to the players. They want more from this season than avoiding relegation

    Brentford only made three changes to the starting XI against Bournemouth and one of those was due to injury. A good result against a side we've struggle against

    Keith Andrews looked heartbroken

    28th December 2023. We beat them 2-0 and I watched the game with my wife's very confident, Arsenal supporting cousin whilst at my in-laws over Christmas. He didn't enjoy it as much as I did.

    Here's something unimportant that is annoying me.

    Officially, last night was a draw rather than a win. In Nuno's managerial record stats it gets captured as a draw, because it was a draw at the end of full time. On Nuno's wikipedia page his record is recorded as such - 8 wins, 8 draws, 11 defeats. On West Ham's wikipedia page, it's been recorded as a win - 9 wins, 7 draws, 11 defeats.

    I agree, but apparently the official statistics will show that it's a draw. Which also means he isn't the first manager to progress with a draw, as it's the case for all managers.

    Just watched the highlights as I didn't get a chance to see it live. How Madley could ignore the foul on Traore and yet pointed immediately to the spot for the soft push on Kayode is beyond me. Disgraceful refereeing. >:)

    I personally didn't even see a push worth talking about. If Sommerville could generate that much sideways push with his shoulder for their player to fall into the net like that then he deserves to be sent off. As itis, I just don't see it.

    Realistically, if Summerville misses the City and Villa games, that's not the end of the world, as we would be unlikely to get points in either game anyway.

    That said, Pablo coming back is really big for us and gives some options.

    I can see a 4-4-2 with Traore left midfield, I can see a 4-3-3 with Pablo, Taty and Bowen across the front. I would personally be very interested in a 4-4-2 with Diouf at left midfield in front of Scarles, but I don't think that will happen.

    I think that would be serious mismanagement by Nuno (who I like very much). He has risked the one player who has done more than any to get us within reach of safety and then risked him for pretty much nothing. We are a new level of threat with Summerville and without him things will be more difficult.

    I don't think it's mismanagement, personally. If he was rushed back from injury early, or if he had been carrying a knock and then played anyway, that's mismanagement. He could have easily not played him at all on Monday and then he could have got a strain in training on Tuesday, or crashed his car, or dropped a jar of mayonnaise on his foot, or some other freak thing. I think if a player is fit (which he was and has been) then playing him is always fine.
