Burnley vs West Ham; 7th February, 3pm

We’ve played well recently, but this feels like a big test. For the first time in a while this is a match we simultaneously need to win, and should win. That makes me nervous!

The big question will be who plays CB. Disasi hasn’t played for a long time, but no football is probably better than what Kilman’s served up. I don’t know whether Disasi can play on the left of a two, either.

  • Should win?

Before Monday night Burnley had drawn three in a row; Man Utd at home, Liverpool away and Spurs at home. And Sunderland away isn't an easy game, they're the only team in the Prem that hasn't lost at home this season

Disasi played a few times with the Chelsea U21s but his last match was a month ago
  • Should win?

Yep. They're one of two teams below us in the league, one of two teams we can say we've been better than this season. I think it's fair to say that the expectation at large is that we should win.

That’s worrying, that Burnley are the only team in the Premiership that hasn’t lost at home this season. Hadn’t realised that.
  • Sunderland haven't lost at home, Burnley have lost plenty of times at home
  • Before anyone says he hasn’t played for a while and needs time to acclimatise to his team mates and how we play, we don’t want him to play how we play, we need him to play the way a PL centre back should play.
  • I wonder what must be going through Kilman's mind realising how little faith Nuno has in him, such that he's likely to be behind a loanee who hasn't played regular football for the whole season.
J-Lo has a lot to answer for, convincing Sully to splash/waste £40m on him.
  • I don’t recall many people being against the Kilman signing at the time, though. He was regarded as a very steady, ball playing centre back. And he started last season really well. The drop off has been catastrophic
  • I am not sure Kilmans confidence isn't playing a part, it's as I recently mentioned positively regard Mavro in that he doesn't collapse even when out of his depth, Kilman looks a little afraid lately I feel.

As for the match I think should Burnley lose they will be down and should we lose it's not so final but it will have begun to get very tricky indeed if another six pointer goes against us. A week ago if you gave me £1000 to bet on who would be the third team to go down I would probably have gone for Leeds or Palace, lose to Burnley and I would sadly put it on us.

I do think most people felt we hugely overpaid for him though, although I agree the drop off in his form is horrendous.

I think ASLEFshrugged was referring to Sunderland as "the only team in the Prem that hasn't lost at home this season". Burnley have won 2 games at home and lost 6. Hopefully we can make it 7.

When I look at that side you’ve selected - am I the only one who thinks we look half decent now?

Let’s hope for 3 points as I expect, if we do, we’ll be within 3 of safety.
  • We look to have the same hole in the side we have had all season at centre half, unless Disasi proves a shrewd bit of business.

I think Disasi is the right style of CB for us (given the others on our books already), but it's how soon he'll be ready to play given he's only had a few u21 matches since April. Unfortunately Kilman looks like a cross between a deer caught in the headlights and a competition winner, yet I suspect he'll have to start this one.
  • I don’t see why this should be the case. He will have been training full time and playing, as you say, U21 matches. If we can’t play him until he’s so called ‘match fit’ how is he going to get ‘match fit’.
These are meant to be professional athletes and he’s not an inexperienced entity. It was a struggle to get him to sign so confining him to the bench is unlikely.
Kilman seems to have had any memories of how to defend wiped clean
  • Parker seems to have settled his side, setting up 3-4-3 for the last four matches with 8 players starting all four and three more starting three out of four

The only question mark seems to be over who starts up top, Broja started six games in a row before Monday without scoring but was dropped to the bench and replaced by Lyle Foster who had been on the bench for three games after returning from the AFCON.

Broja replaced Foster after an hour but so far his only goal for Burnley was against Bournemouth just before Christmas

Another option is Zian Flemming (6 goals, joint top scorer with LW Jaidon Anthony) who returned from injury on Monday.

Or there's always 36yo Ashley Barnes who played a full 90 minutes in the 5-1 FA Cup win over the 5th placed Championship team and scored twice

The big absence is club captain Josh Cullen who suffered an ACL and could be out for 9 months

Another rather stranger absence is LB Quilindschy Hartman who joined from Feyenoord for £10.25m in the summer, started 14 EPL games in a row, was called up for the Dutch squad in October then suddenly left out of the starting XI in December, started in the FA Cup but hasn't even been on the bench for the last two matches

Rumours are that Hartman saw the move to Burnley as a stepping stone to bigger things, Fabrizio Romano linked him with Ajax and Besiktas in January but nothing happen.

If he's dissatisfied at Burnley this season when their in the top flight he's not going to be a happy bunny next season

    Best guess

    Dubravka
    Tuanzebe Esteve Humphreys
    Walker Ugochukwu Florentino Pires
    Edwards ??????? Anthony
  • I know things are tough with injuries atm at Burnley but getting the Real Madrid President to play for them? =)
