To play two crucial games with Scarles RB & a midfield pairing of Souček & Andy Irving - that takes some nerve.

Newcastle next, who are vastly superior to Everton, Brentford & Leeds. That will be another comfortable home loss & then the question is how many points adrift will we be by the January window? At this rate it will be over 10.

Also, how is Nuno going to make an impact with none of his coaching staff? Baffling that we have appointed him & given him a load of academy coaches, who I’d guess are not good enough for PL coaching (hence they work in the academy). They certainly have no experience of it. Where is his team that was with him at Forest? He is going to have no impact as a lone wolf.
  • First goal - again another hopeless attempt from Diouf to stop the cross coming in, Scarles outmuscled, & how embarrassing are Todibo & AWB after the save from Areola.
  • Hard to understand the starting choice over the past couple of games but maybe Nuno was having a look in match conditions at the whole squad? Why he couldn't do this in training I don't know, At least we won the second half.... or am I clutching at straws.
  • We didn’t give him the academy coaches, he chose them.

We didn’t give him the academy coaches, he chose them.

I can tell you now he did not choose them over his usual coaching team

Nuno did not say ‘tell you what, don’t appoint my trusted coaching team who I have worked with all my career, including at Forest where we survived & qualified for Europe, instead promote these four lads from the U23 set up who have never experienced PL football coaching. Thanks’.

I really want to know why Nuno has turned up by himself with no support staff.
  • Given the criticism those players have received since Monday, the non existent response in terms of effort & desire was appalling. You’d think, after a week of being questioned whether you are up to it, you’d see some form of response from the team. Nothing.

Then at HT; walking off the abuse from the loyal away fans, you’d think there’d be some form of response second half. Nothing.

This side has 0 personality. Does anybody actually like or look forward to watching any of the players?
  • @Lukerz, You have to wonder why he took the job if he wasn't going to be allowed to bring in his own coaches?
Marking for the second goal is ???? Where is Soucek?
  • I look forward to the West Ham games and have watched every minute of the season so far. I watched last night with the sound off as I don't enjoy listening to Alan Smith. I think the players are genuinely trying but Nuno needs to learn quicky from these performances and get the best out of our limited squad.

Let's blame Soucek when Paqueta lost his man and let him run through unopposed.
  • It got pretty toxic last night, not only against the board but players too. Kilman, Todibo and Paqueta got pelters but the team were clapped off at the end.

@IronHerb, I reckon Paqueta did more for the team last night than Soucek. He normally goes back to play for his country and returns with rave reviews but this time he was criticised, may be he isn't the player he once was?
My comment was a general one in that there wasn't any real marking & I mentioned Soucek as he should be in the thick of it heading the ball away?
  • Paqueta was shocking, and the fans let him know it. Another to walk straight off at the end, along with Todibo.

To be honest IronHerb that isn't saying much as the whole team hasn't been too clever has it? All this is doing is adding more fuel to the planned protests.
  • Lukerz I’m only going by what he himself said. Maybe he was under pressure but that’s never been the case before. Maybe he believed coaches who’d been here years would have some kind of impact.
Football is football and it’s not meant to be played differently by different squads as our development/academy squads should all train the same way as the first team.
He’s already brought in another goalkeeping coach so maybe he’ll gradually change his mind.
This lot need psychiatric help not coaching help.

What is adding fuel to the protests?
  • @IronHerb, The disenchantment with most things happening, or not, at the club atm. Anyone is welcome to tell me there isn't grounds for concerns.

To be fair, I thought Paqueta was ‘ok’. Todibo was a disgrace from start to end. Diouf I am not convinced by, he is way too raw to be a starting PL level LB. Summerville I think is Championship level. Souček & Bowen disappointed me in terms of the leadership & intensity they showed, given they have been here the longest & are the most ingrained in West Ham culture. Irving just not good enough (not his fault). Wilson, AWB, Kilman were ‘meh’. Areola showed no command & presence in goal (as usual). Potts, Fernandes, KWP, Magassa all added a little extra when they came on.
  • The only players that are happy are those who left, all doing well it seems.

Emerson and Aguerd sit top of the French league, above PSG
Cresswell sits in third in the Championship at Stoke
Coufal in the Euro places 6-7th in the German League with Hoffenheim.

We could have done with Coufal up front this week, I'm pretty sure that is where Nuno would have played him.
  • It's been said before , we simply don't have a leader, IMO Bowen is a weak captain, he's not vocal enough (IMO).....( I know some don't think a captain has to be vocal, but I personally do )

The last 20 mins gave me a little hope for the future, that we can somehow claw our way out this huge problem, but it'll need some splashing of cash in January very wisely, otherwise it will be just a matter of time before we drop down to the championship.

Nuno hasn't helped himself at all, his selections are even more strange than some of his predecessors....He also needs waking up quickly, I mean, playing Scarles out of position, what's that all about....

Also, while I don't think JWP has done anything at all, but to just isolate him out of the squad, is again a bit odd for me.....

There is no backbone in the squad and no leaders on the pitch, we are slow, lacking grit and fight... The defence, woeful, the best word for me to describe them without swearing..

With our squad/injuries, IMO Potts & Wilson have to start our next game, and please Nuno, play them in their proper positions!

There is so much work to do with our current squad, whether Nuno can get a tune out of them, we'll have to see, but at the moment, it looks very difficult to say the least....

Oh well, there's more to life than football I tell myself.....

Fairly obvious if you think about it

We spent a lot on hiring Lopetegui and his staff then had to pay all of them off when Lopetegui was sacked along with Tim Steidten

We then spent a lot on Potter and his staff including Kyle Macaulay then spent a lot more when we sacked all of them

Nuno must have been told that there was no money to spend on staff and that he'd have to work with whoever was still at the club.

In his press conference Nuno was asked about transfers in January

"It is us who is going to solve our problems. Us who is in the building, not us who is outside. We must solve our own problems."

Remember the club said we were close to breaching the financial fair play rules and we had to sell Kudus before we could do any transfer deals

There is no money and unless we can sell players in January we won't be getting anyone in

Maybe if we’d stop hiring out of work managers we’d stop spending huge amounts of money appointing them & their teams, paying them all off when we sack them, & then repeating the process.

Surely if we appointed an in work manager we’d have to pay comp to his current club.
I don’t think there’s many managers in the PL who haven’t been sacked and out of work at some point.
  • The last time we signed a manager from another club was Pardew in 2003 and he had to spend several weeks "gardening leave" cos we'd not asked Reading for permission to approach him

We've always been a cheapskate club when it comes to managers
  • The problem is that there is no planning and no continuity. We sack a manager, we just pick someone who is out of work regardless of whether they particularly align to our long term plan (have we even got a long term plan?).

This is why it's all on Sullivan, as it's so difficult to see if we even have a long term plan; if we did, we'd hire a manager that suited the long term plan, and we'd always have suitable candidates that also suited that long term plan identified should we need a change of manager, and players would also be identified that suited the long term plan so we could recruit better there too.

We appear to do none of this, it's why we're in the mess we're in, and it's all on Sullivan.

Yep, that’s what all the best organisations do. Headhunting it’s usually called.
  • At this point our only hope may be if we can prevent being cut off by the time of the January window. I am old enough to remember things looking pretty grim and us bringing in Hartson and Kitson in January and them keeping us up, I think another season we brought in Lucus Neil when needing leadership and us turning the tide.

In January a dominant centre back and a striker could turn things around, as long as we are still in touch. The problem is we may need to sell first to raise funds and have few people of value.
  • perhaps better chance would be loan signings ,Not a fan but who will want to come and sign for us .Where some of the top clubs might be happy to lend us a player or two so they can get some game time ,Not sure how many loans we are allowed
  • That's a decent shout If we can tempt them with big loan fees as we may get a better quality of player. One thing is for sure in the usual way of doing business in the window will be pointless. We will not be in the position of strength and we can't wait until the end of January, we simply need gamble.
  • The season in Brazil finishes, I believe, in December so that is where our focus might be?
