  • I haven't managed to see these matches so thanks for the comments.

I am pleased that all seem enthused by Diouf as he is our first big signing under potter and it looks like someone did their homework. I would hope we will see a couple more arrive before window end.

Fulkrug seems to be motivated and looking sharper, and if Calum Wilson is the only attacker signed we will be relying on him a great deal. I am hoping last seasons big buys will show why we bought them this term as only AWB did so last season. If we can get Fulkrug, Tobido and Summerville firing properly they will be like new signings. Personally I am not sure about Tobido but very hopeful of Fulkrug and Summerville if they can remain fit.

I think I would try and raise some money by selling JWP, he must have some value and I can't see him getting much opportunity and would rather Potts have his minutes.

  • We were lucky to win. Defence was not inspiring and could easily have conceded 3 or more goals. Areola had a poor game and seems a liability. JWP was pedestrian. Irving looks like a better bet and is more mobile.
  • We really need a mobile midfielder and a better goalkeeper, honestly. If we got those things sorted, we'd be far more solid defensively. Our midfield get turned too easily, so a quicker midfielder would really help, and we concede position a lot in defensive positions because (to me at least) Areola can't pass and the team don't trust giving it back to him.
  • Also midfield is not progressive - tend to pass sideways and backwards.
  • I was surprised Álvarez got no minutes. That means he’ll probably get 45 at best at the weekend & then not be in a position to start for a good 3/4 games.
  • Alvarez only stopped playing 4 weeks ago so need much conditioning.
  • Perhaps there's an offer out there .So did not risk him
  • He was given a few weeks off after the CONCACAF final early July. Only met up with the squad at the end of last week.
  • Areola needs to spend less time on his hair and more time on improving his passing. At times i thought we had Salvador Dali in goal...

I enjoyed following the series and thought it was useful in that I saw some progress and took away some positives, Potts appears more than ready to step up with Diouf looking like the real deal who will be an exciting addition to the team.

Fullkrug looked sharp and hungry up front and I am hopeful that he can build a partnership with Bowen, with a revitalized Paqueta pulling the strings behind them and quality support from AWB and Diouf, i see goals in that team.

To be sure, there is still work to be done in midfield and defence to ensure we tighten up at the back but we have options open to us and I am confident that we will sign a keeper who will instill a greater level of confidence which will be a great start.

All in all I looking forward to the new season and am less concerned today than I was a few weeks ago.

I am looking for and expecting, a solid mid table performance from this squad in 2026.

  • A quick warning for anyone going to the friendly against Lille on Saturday, there's no Central line from Leytonstone to Loughton and from Newbury Park to Woodford via Hainault
