  • This is from a mate of a mate who apparently works for Sky so I have absolutely no confidence in this at all!
He says Sunderland away is first, then Chelsea home, Forest away, Spurs home, Palace home and Everton away. That’s all I’ve got so far.
    We shall see!

    Ex is saying the same.
  • And they are right!
  • Great not like Sunderland won't be up for there first game
  • Opta rate our first five games as the third easiest.
  • I don't =)
  • All in all that looks to be a pretty balanced fixture list.

As an attendee the long distance away games are evenly spread and four of our five midweek games are in London with Fulham and Man Utd being the only away games.

I note that the EPL have warned of short notice date changes later in the season to accomodate this clubs in the knock out stages of the European competitions but hey, what's new?

The fixtures seem balanced I agree.

I however look at them and see us as second favourites in most. This isn't me being pessimistic. I just think our current squad, and form just isn't good enough to think otherwise.
  • That looks a little easier than we have had in recent seasons. I don't think Sunderland will be complaining.

Arsenal and Burnley seem to have drawn a bit of a short straw.

I mean, that is you being pessimistic! Not saying it won’t be the case, but it is definitely pessimistic

I reckon Sullivan should give the Premier League a ring and tell them to relegate us before the season starts. It’ll save nine months of gnashing of teeth and hand wringing on here.

  • I don't see many points in any of the first 6 games, apart from Sunderland, who are going to be well up for it.
In fact I could see us with just 5 points at the end of September.
Definitely a half empty glass man atm. :(
  • @Slacker, I have to agree based on all the positive signs coming out of the club & with all the signings we have made in comparison to some of the clubs in the EPL 👍.

Mate we could sign Mbappé, Salah,Rodri, and half the PSG side and it still wouldn’t be enough for some ( most) on here.

  • So who is more optimistic than me?

No we couldn’t Slacker because the owners wouldn’t fund any such deals & there is one of the major reasons why so many are really negative about the future 👍.

Er, I wasn’t actually thinking that we could get those players.😂
Btw how much did we spend last summer?🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic until I know the final squad. But they do say hope springs eternal 😉

Apologies you missed the point we should be trying to buy players of that quality, waits for someone to say how do I know we aren’t 🤦🏻‍♂️. We did spend some money last summer but didn’t we sell Declan Rice? The owners have the money to invest but choose not to which is disappointing as it means we will never really be able to be competitive until they sell up & go 👍.
  • Under these owners we’ve won a trophy, been in a europa league semi final and quarter final, been in with a decent shout for the top four at least twice, broken our transfer record multiple times. According to transfermarkt, Last summer we spent a net of €100m, the year before when we sold rice we made €30m, but the year before we spent a net of over €100m.

What do you mean by “be competitive”?

It’s fine to not like the owners but let’s not rewrite history and ignore facts.

Who is trying to rewrite history? Apologies if I have got the time frame wrong but what were we told when moving Champions League in seven years? You just need to look at the transfers already done by Liverpool & Manchester City to see why I am frustrated. We allegedly need to sell to buy, why?

Champions League in seven years was an aspiration not a guarantee and the sell to buy issue probably has something to do with financial sustainability rules.

Measuring what we're doing against Liverpool and Man City is baffling to me. They're on a different planet and likely always will be

The comparison was more to do with clubs having already defined their targets & then getting on with completing their signings. Can I compare us with what Brighton have already done?
So Jorderz “Then like like my dreams they fade & die”?
  • I’ll reserve my opinion till end of transfer window.

We all can agree the Squad needs improvement, so let’s see…

  • We allegedly need to sell to buy, why?

Because generally we've been very poor in the transfer market. It's not necessarily that Sullivan won't ever spend, it's more that, over the years, he's spent very, very poorly.

We allegedly need to sell to buy, why?

We've made a huge loss in the last few windows due to over-investment, and there are PSR and FSP rules that stop us from being able to spend beyond our means.
  • Very happy with Sunderland. My stepdad is a Sunderland fan & it’s a game that is 1) winnable but 2) has interest with it being their first game back in the PL, so will be challenging too. Much better than being drawn to play at Anfield or The Etihad.
