  • To answer that last part, there I absolutely no evidence to suggest that he would be.
  • Didn't he have a slowish start at Brighton
  • We have to sell to buy according to the club and Potter has hinted at the same so I doubt we will sign better with the same or less than we sell for.
  • We will need a dozen new players given we have so many out of contract and loaned in players we won't be keeping.

    Good luck sorting that out.
  • Cant believe theres no money to spend ,Did we not offer 60mil for Duran in january or was that just a smoke screen .Who in there right mind would buy our dead wood
  • And who in their right mind would want to join us given our recent record?
  • Why did Potter play a RB in a LB position when Cresswell was available.
Luke, IMO you are wrong not to give “any”
Blame to Potter, he’s also allowed to be accountable IMO.

Maybe Potter thinks a 27yo right back is a better option at left back than a 35yo who mostly plays as a left sided centre back these days

AWB played on the left several times at Man Utd and has started there five times this season
So why didn’t he switch AWB yesterday, sorry, no excuses IMO it was just a poor decision IMO.

Jay - what do you blame Potter for? The formation of 3-5-2 had us 1-2 up away at a side 12 points higher than us & pushing for Europe, whilst we sit 17th. Do you think he should have made 0 subs or did you think he should have brought on Irving, Cresswell, Ings, Rodríguez once he decided we needed fresh legs.

Luke, please try understand, you’re struggling.
All I’m trying to stress is that for me Potter has to accept some part of blame, ( not just yesterday) I’m not slating him or saying I don’t want him as our manager etc etc, but IMO he has to be a bit accountable, you see it differently, that he has done nothing wrong, IMO that isn’t true 👍🏻
Also I don’t buy the Cresswell age thing, because recently when he played he was okay, if he didn’t want to play Cresswell, fair enough, but why didn’t he then swap AWB over and let Coufal play in a more familiar position to him, that for me is simply strange, but hey, like you said, we were beaten by 2 great goals, it is what it is at the moment and I’m confident Potter can change things around, in a positive way, obviously with a bit or fair bit of tweaking to the squad for sure 👍🏻⚒️

Seeing the highlights, the mentality of the players really feels like the problem. Not in terms of them not caring or not trying, but whenever they come under pressure the whole team drops and drops and drops. I remember Moyes saying he didn’t want them doing that, but it seems to be baked into them.

IMO, we’ve been lacking a leader at the back since Dawson left, and we’ve been lacking a leader full stop since Rice left. We’ve got nobody directing the defensive line.

That thing about the whole team dropping further and further back is strange isn't, and your comment about it seeming to be baked in is so true.
It seems that way regardless of which players or manager, almost as if there's a spell been cast on them.
  • The obligation to buy Todibo has been activated as it was conditional on our staying in the PL so that’s some of whatever money might be available

But that is because there is no player barking at them to get out, or at least the midfielders.
  • Watched the highlights again and our defenders must be claustrophobic as they seem to prefer yards of space around them and never want to get close to anybody. Also they seem reluctant to make blocks and meekly turn their backs on shots.
  • We have to sell to buy according to the club and Potter has hinted at the same so I doubt we will sign better with the same or less than we sell for.

It’s not about “better”, IMO, it’s about being suited to what the manager needs them to do.

Paqueta is barking....oh I see what you meant 😏

    My deepest apologies

I just watched again and Coufal did play on the left. He has played there before a handful of times but obviously it's not his ideal position.

Guess Potter wanted to keep AWB on the right facing Mitoma but didn't fancy Cresswell facing Minteh
  • Just watched a recording of the Palace v Aston Villa game. They ought to make our sorry lot watch it on an endless loop to see a masterclass of closing down and defending by Palace.

No need to apologise, perhaps that's what Potter thought, didn't fancy Cresswell, but still seems odd to me to play Coufal at LB!!

    Please don't sell Soucek

Rumours are that Potter wants him out and Moyes is interested in taking him to Everton.
  • Never heard the rumour and doubt it very much. Potter would know he’s one of the few players who give 100% for 100% of the time.
  • Soucek going would be a terrible loss to us. He may not be the most talented of our players,, but he gives his all every match. I just wish the rest of the team tried as hard as he does, then we might be a lot higher up the league.
I hope the rumour is unfounded,
  • I would be astonished if that is true as he is one of our most reliable midfielders who always contributes with goals. At 8 goals in the league this season he has scored twice as many as Kudus even though he plays much deeper. This aside he has a superb attitude, gives his all and loves West Ham so I could see no reason to let him go! We would also not be getting big money for him at age 30.

Potter would be risking a lot by letting him go in my view and the ground beneath his feet is hardly solid at present.
  • Potter isn't in charge of recruitment decisions. We have a Chief Executive who likes being the decision maker, and have just hired a Head of Recruitment in Kyle MacAuley. Potter isn't even the manager, and was hired as a 'Head Coach', which in modern football essentially means "not the decision maker outside of the pitch".

I'm sure he has a say in how much he wants a player to stay or leave, but the decision over whether the money is right has nothing to do with him. Be angry if you want, but be angry at the right people.
  • MacAulay was with Potter at Ostersunds, Swansea, Brighton and Chelsea so it seems highly likely that Potter asked for MacAulay as Head of Recruitment rather than the board imposing him on Potter

Shouldn't this conversation be in "transfers"?
  • Soucek was the target of all hate under Moyes and now suddenly is loved!

Soucek maybe isn't the best for possession based football though I don't really see what JWP brings that Soucek doesn't (aside from false hope around set pieces).

Yes, but there is no way to merge comments into an existing thread, only to start a new one.

Not from me, I've always loved Big Tommy

JWP and Soucek both bring something different to the central midfield, JWP is more creative, a better passer while Soucek is a better tackler, good in the air, runs box-to-box

JWP takes set pieces, Soucek gets on the end of them

That's great if we're allowed to field 13 players 😂🤣😂.

  • I'm disappointed in JWP since his return. He instigates a lot of the sideways and backwards passing.

To my mind if Potter wants to play 3-4-2-1 then the central midfield pair is either Soucek, Alvarez or Rodriguez as the workhorse and JWP, Paqueta or Soler as the fancy Dan
