After getting a kick up the backside from steve to get the Spurs thread open I have gone early this week. 😂

Well, no one expected us to go on a roll, and in current circumstances 2 wins is a roll, but here we are going for three on the bounce.

Sunderland, probably the surprise package of the season, at home for a lunchtime football feast. Going to be tight but as our tails are now up I see us coming out on top 2-1.

The No More BS campaign have called on fans to stay out or their seats for the opening 15 minutes. Not good timing as I see it. Even though the target is the board everyone should be trying to get behind the team from the off. We'll see.

Over to you ASLEF.

Ah! The magic of the cup, the 3rd round is one of the great sporting days on the calendar they will all say.

So 32 ties now played over 4 days with 10 different kick off times. Oh well.

QPR at home for the first time at the London Stadium in front of a decent crowd of around 45,000, imo, QPR having sold out their 9000 allocation in quick time.

QPR being 3 points off the play off positions will likely field a mixd staring XI, I'll leave it to ASLEF to fill in the details. Nuno needs a win, any win, so my starting XI is -

Hermansen
Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Igor, Mayers
Soucek, Magassa
Bowen, Paqueta, Sommerville
Pablo

2-1 home win to lift some of the gloom.

Ok, what do we know about the squad ahead of the summer rebuild…

Gone/going:
Fabiański - released
Zouma - released
Coufal - released
Cresswell - released
Soler - back to PSG
Antonio - uncertain
Ferguson - back to Brighton
Ings - released

Doubts (linked away/been left out 11 in last few games):
Aguerd
Emerson
Rodríguez
Paquetá
Cornet
Kudus

Most likely to stay:
Areola
Kilman
Mavropanos
Todibo
Wan-Bissaka
Scarles
Souček
Álvarez
Ward-Prowse
Guilherme
Summerville
Bowen (c)
Füllkrug

Possible youngsters:
Potts
Earthy

Players not really involved:
Foderingham
Irving

Who would you keep?
Kilman, Wan-Bissaka, Souček, Summerville, Bowen.

Who would you sell to raise funds?
Aguerd, Paquetá & Kudus seem the most valuable assets (outside Bowen who we can’t sell). Souček possibly (I’d keep him, though).

What does Potter need to prioritise?
Keeper, striker, a new midfield, depth in full-back positions & another CB. Average age of squad needs to come down.

I was listening to a podcast earlier that was talking about each Premier League teams Most Used XI this season. They defined it by the players with the most appearances across each position, I think. Ours was:

Areola
Wan-Bissaka Mavropanos Kilman Emerson
Alvarez Soucek
Bowen Paqueta Kudus
Antonio

It got me wondering how many minutes that actual XI has played together this season, so I've worked it out.

That side has played together a total of ZERO times this season.

In the process of working it out, though, I've also worked out what is our most common XI to have on the pitch at any one point. And, I have to say, the total minutes played together was astonishingly low.

The XI we've had on the pitch the most at any one time this season is:

Areola
Todibo Kilman Cresswell
Wan-Bissaka Alvarez Soucek Scarles
Bowen Kudus

The XI that started the Arsenal, Leicester and Newcastle games recently. And those three matches are the only times they've played together. 61' at Arsenal, 65' at Leicester and 64' at Newcastle, meaning our most used XI have only played together for 190 minutes all season.

Talk about an unsettled side.

Paqueta - calf, apparently due to see a specialist, suggested out of a month
Bowen - ankle, from Sunday's game, awaiting news
Mavropanos - rib, also from Sunday's game
Antonio - knee, been out since November, and just suffered a setback in training, 4-6 weeks
Kudus - hamstring, although unavailable through AFCON atm, the concern is he'll be risked when not fully recovered and will make the injury worse.

If you'll all humour me, I want to try something for 2023/24. I learned about another clubs forum where they have a scientific way of selecting a player of the year, and I would love to steal their idea, but it requires (a tiny amount of) help from you all as forum members.

Basically, the way it works is every game, people just say who their man of the match was. I count up who people voted for, whoever gets the most votes is MOTM, second most is runner up, third most is third. Nice and simple. Then, at the end of the year, each player gets 3pts for a MOTM, 2pts for coming second, 1pt for coming third, and we have a nice little league table to tell us who our collective Hammer of the Year is. To make it manageable, I'll only count MOTM votes until the end of the day after a match (i.e. Saturday games have a cut off of midnight Monday morning).

You don't really need to do much, just please pop your MOTM into the match thread at the end of the game. A lot of people do this anyway, but I wanted to announce this so that, if you're someone who doesn't, you can chip in if you want to.

Remember, this IS NOT a prediction game. This is simply saying, from this batch of fixtures, what is the cut off point between good and bad. You could go one further and say what is the cut off between good, decent and bad if you want to, but basically you need to say the minimum number of points that think is acceptable after this run of games.

So, our next 8 games are:
1. Villa away
2. Everton at home
3. Brentford away
4. Forest at home
5. Burnley away
6. Palace at home
7. Spurs away
8. Fulham at home

I think we may have some discussion on Mubama until his contract talks are concluded so I thought i would start a thread.

I would be in favour of taking a chance on Mubama within these contract talks. We have gambled on two strikers from abroad and lost out, we need a new striker and I think if Mubama goes we need pay quite a fee for the next gamble. There is no fee for Mubama, so lets give him more than we feel is possibly sensible and hope he can begin to step up.

I don't think there is any chance of us finding another 30-40m to gamble on the next striker this season and perhaps a loan will arrive in January. Antonio and Ings would attract little in fees if sold next summer so that striker would be a large chunk of our budget. I of course have no idea how far apart we are from what he is asking but if we gave him a four year deal at 20k per week more than he is asking that is a gamble of just over £2m against paying £30-40m for the next Scamacca and them being on probably 3 times what Mubama may be asking.

I am sure Moyes and the club have appraised his potential and maybe they just feel he wont make it in the first team but If it's just about money I would take the gamble. He may be the next Lukaku or even Drogba?

So with Declan Rice almost gone from the club who do you think the captain’s armband should be passed to. My choice would be Aguerd or Paqueta. Thoughts please.
