Next 8 games - A Hard Day's Night or Glad All Over?

Well, I don't think anyone can be less than a touch disappointed with our points haul from the first 8 games.

On the positive side, we are at least running at 1 point per game, which beats relegation over a season.

20/10/2017 Brighton (h)
28/10/2017 Crystal Palace (a)
04/11/2017 Liverpool (h)
19/11/2017 Watford (a)
24/11/2017 Leicester City (h)
29/11/2017 Everton (a)
02/12/2017 Manchester City (a)
09/12/2017 Chelsea (h)

I'd be disappointed if we don't come away with at least 10 points from this lot, and ideally we'd have those by the man City game, as I don't see too much for is in games 7 and 8...

  • My minimum expectation would be 10 points, but I would like to think we could get more than that from these games
  • 20/10/2017 Brighton (h) - 3
    28/10/2017 Crystal Palace (a) - 1
    04/11/2017 Liverpool (h) - 0
    19/11/2017 Watford (a) - 1
    24/11/2017 Leicester City (h) - 3

    02/12/2017 Manchester City (a) - 0
    09/12/2017 Chelsea (h) - 0

9 is what i would expect from those fixtures ;ok
  • You know, I want us to get 12 from that lot. I'll be a bit disappointed if we don't.

I think we should aim for 3 points from Palace, but I'd be surprised if we beat Watford at their gaff. A point from Liverpool and at the very least, 1 from Chelsea. (My variations on twist's post.)
  • 10 would be OK. Happy with 12
  • Grey - a point a game is a good yardstick but I would prefer to say it beats relegation over most seasons. I have a painful memory of us going down with 42pts, unless I have that wrong?

I'd hope for 10pts plus from those games.
Like you I'd be disappointed with less than 8.
  • Deanscale

No, sadly that did happen, but the 10 year average for survival has been 36 points for a good few years now.
  • I would expect 10pts from those matches, which would be o.k, can't see us
getting anymore to be honest, but if we did, they would be a bonus.
  • I have to say I cant see where 10 points from those games will come from. Sounds pessimistic but when I look at the fixtures I don't feel particularly confident. Perhaps if we start playing better football and create more then i'll start to see it

    transformation
  • Baz

    OK.

So, from those games, how many points would make you think 'fair enough'?
  • 20/10/2017 Brighton (h) - 3
    28/10/2017 Crystal Palace (a) - 0/1
    04/11/2017 Liverpool (h) - 0
    19/11/2017 Watford (a) - 0/1
    24/11/2017 Leicester City (h) - 1/3
    29/11/2017 Everton (a) - 0/1
02/12/2017 Manchester City (a) - 0 (at this moment would take a 3-0 defeat lol)
    09/12/2017 Chelsea (h) - 0

You know Everton will have turned the corner by the time we play them. A bit like Palace against Chelsea (who we're due to lose against away)... We'll get nothing from Liverpool, Man City or Chelsea. Watford are doing well under Silva too

What's fair enough is about 6-8pts. I'd be very happy if that turns out to be higher
  • If we are on less than 20 points after the next 8 games then the primary objective for the rest of the season will probably be simply to stay up
  • ;hmm

Don't see that, to be honest.

If that's the case by 1 Jan, then .... probably ;ok
  • I believe 8 out of the next nine matches are being televised live between Sky & BT. Points wise hope for 12 accept ten.
  • Looking at that list nothing other than 3 points this Friday will be remotely acceptable
  • These could be unpredictable, so we lose the 'winnable' games and get surprise results from the 'unwinnable' ones. So I'm going for 10 points like everyone else ;wink
  • Circumstances do play a part though.

In normal circumstances I’d say 8 would be acceptable from those fixtures. But given that would leave us on 16 points from 16 games and we have points to make up, I can’t help but factor that in.

So, normally, 8 would be acceptable, but I think now I’m expecting us to make up points, so 12 is what I’d consider as ‘that would do’ from those games.

But I suppose 8 is my actual answer. ;lol
  • Baz - you'd be happy enough with only 6 points from the next 8 games?! That's relegation form my man!

0-3 points I'll be furious, 4-5 I'll be very disappointed, 6-7 I'll be disappointed, 8-9 points I'll find just about acceptable, 10-13 I'll be very happy, 14-23 I'll be ecstatic, 24 points I'll set up a party and buy everyone a drink over Christmas.
  • I didnt say anything about being happy enough with 6 pts...

Grey asked what points total I thought was fair enough. I could only see 6-8 points.

I said I'd be happy if that total was higher...
  • 10 will do for me
  • Baz: in which case I misunderstood your previous message - my apologies!

Hopefully the first three points to come tonight!
  • 0:3 excellent start
  • On tonight's showing I doubt we will get more than 2
  • I’m now hoping for 3 points against Liverpool as they are well known for slippping up v rubbish teams
  • Party cancelled.
  • No apology needed Florin!

My 6-8 points comment was based on us beating Brighton for 3 of 'em ;doh

I havent feared relegation for a few years. Now I'm feeling pretty worried. Things need to change quickly as that bad run of fixtures could leave us fighting (and with even less confidence than that is evident now)
  • Make no bones about it. This season’s definition of success has now become to finish at least 17th
  • Well the first part of my prediction was spot on - we lost a 'winnable' game in fine style. Now all we have to do is get results against Liverpool, Man C & Chelsea, not forgetting Watford, Leicester & a resurgent (by the time we play them) Everton. ;luck
  • In my best lord Percy voice
“ maybe we will play better against bettter teams “

    ;doh
  • Just realize I've had the bottom comment on draft for ages ;doh (we now desperately need 3 points against Everton or I think it'll be a case of us taking all season to avoid relegation, hopefully successfully!)

If Moyes is appointed can I alter my original 6-8pts down to 1-3pts and sacked by January

    So we've gone:

    Brighton 0
    Palace 1
    Liverpool 0
    Watford 0
    Leicester 1

With Everton, Man City and Chelsea to go... Baz was looking very generous!
