  • There is no doubt we are not a one man team and we will still take our fair share of points, however' he is what gives us the ability to go beyond this and hit the heights of a top four side (albeit an inconsistent one).

I am really angry as I accept injuries and accept bad tackles at times but what really gets me is the degree of targeting which clearly took place. I am a great believer in what goes around however and await the news that McCarthy gets an even bigger taste of his own medicine during some match soon.
  • ;ok

The annoying this is that Everton benefitted from McCarthy's action.

They robbed us of our best player for the second half on Saturday (who knows, we may well have won had Payet played 90 mins), but also were allowed to carry on for another half with 11 men.

Then, to add insult to injury, we lose him until March.

Hate Everton. Remember our away game there last season when we battered them and lost 2-1, and the dirty tricks they got up to.

    Huge blow but it's done
Zarate Moses lanzini really have to step it up now
    Hopefully enner is ok
I know song is a totally different player to payet but hopefully he's nearly ready as he will add real quality to a midfield without payet
  • We can cope with this.

    In Slaven We Trust

    Slaven,
Agreed I have faith in Bilic ;ok
  • I was really looking forward to seeing Payet with Song as both are potentially world class and could have turned that central area into a corridor of creativity. Such a blow.

I wonder if the injury was made worse by playing on but obviously something that is hard to tell.
  • Let's hope that they don't try to rush him back ;ok
  • Terrible news, we've lost 3 months of watching him play which is just a shame.

    Unhappy hammer....
  • Doesn't look good for Valencia either. Specialist looking at his ankle next week so maybe he will need an operation. May be missing a long while.
  • If so, I feel for him. He's only just back after the last long injury lay off/operation.
  • McCarthy should be banned for the same amount of time Payet misses.
  • Gets worse everytime I see it, both feet way off the ground....that alone should be red, regardless of the "scissor" motion

  • Terrible tackle. It seems out of character though because as far as I can see James Mccarthy has never been sent off and doesn't appear to have a history of bad tackles. I can only assume he must have been told to go out and do a job on Payet.

Such a shame for Payet. I do believe however that with Lanzini and Zarate we have players to fill his position (not his boots though).
  • I think he does have a bit of "form"
  • I was out for three months with ankle ligament damage earlier this year.

Being an athlete and having a medical regime which consists of more than some Ibuprofen and an ice pack, I hope Payet will be back in action sooner than I was.

    Some comments from their forum:

''Hopefully the little jarg midget has snapped his knee in 64 places and never plays again.''

    ''It wasnt even a foul.''

''Should have hit the ****** stepover *** harder.''

''Best thing he's done this season is that tackle on Payet. About time someone stuck a foot in like that, just let's the opposition know they are in a game and he did it to their most dangerous player.''

There's loads more like that too. What a scummy club
Just checked this out myself. Our forum (like Payet) oozes class in comparison to what I have just read.
  • I can only assume he must have been told to go out and do a job on Payet.
Check Martinez's quotes last week. All but implied it from his comments.

  • This injury ticks me off ;angry

It's one thing if Payet got injured from a fair tackle, I could accept that. But it disgusts me that he was targeted by a number of their players with heavy tackles and that doesn't happen by accident, they were obviously told to do it by the management.

McCarthys' "tackle" could easily have ended Payets' career if he had caught him with the studs as he was flying into Payet.

Hopefully he doesn't take 3 months to get match fit as he is a vital player for us. Lanzini or Zarate can play the same role as Payet but whether they can create as much as Payet does is debatable.
  • Gutted, absolutely gutted.

It was a targeting of an influential player, rotating through to avoid yellow cards.

Wish we could sue, or have McCarthy banned for as long as Payet is out.

I used to have respect for Everton ...

    not any more.
  • What is disappointing though is how Payet was allowed to not only continue until half-time, but come out for the second half, then sit in the dugout after he was substituted rather than receive immediate treatment. What were the medical staff doing all this time? It does make you wonder.

Does seem odd Horsham. Surely an injury bad enough to sideline a pro #baller for three months would mean either a fracture or ligament damage, both of which would result in obvious swelling ;hmm

KUMB are questioning the injury and decision to not take him off and treat him immediately.

Maybe it's all a ruse to befuddle the Spuds ;wahoo
  • Valencia out for another 6 weeks.

Think or season may tumble now without payet he was the major cog in our games i dont see anyone filling those shoes

Zarate won't be able to fill the creativity void, mainly because he refuses to pass the ball.

Lanzini will have to step up even more than he has already, and Antonio will now come into contention.

Always seems, with us, things go wrong when it gets to the 'too good to be true' stage. One week we have our best bench in decades, then we lose Obiang, Sakho, Payet, Valencia in a week.

At least DP won't be sold in Jan.

    Baffling, horsh.

You'd assume they looked at him at HT yet failed to have any suspicion it was a ligament injury, or even that that was a potential possibility, or even a more vague "this could be serious".

When Slav said he was optimistic he'd be fit for Spurs, what gave him that impression? Was he told that by the medical team?

At the end of the day the ref should his naivety and inexperience. All he had to do was recognise Everton's tactic of going in on Payet and book 1/2 of their mob and make it clear it stops. It is his job to ensure the safety of all 22 players.
  • If he is out, he is out. We need other players to step up and we can't rush him back. Time for Slav and the team to really prove we are a good "team".
  • Mooj - we'll be fine, but I honestly thought we had a chance of breaking the top 6.

Now top 10 will be more likely.
  • "When Slav said he was optimistic he'd be fit for Spurs, what gave him that impression? Was he told that by the medical team?"

Perhaps they thought he had just twisted his ankle? If so he would've been ready to play in two weeks... but they had to wait for the scan to be sure.

It's a shame that Valencia will be out for 6 weeks but I'm not sure how much of a loss he will be as he really hasn't featured much.
  • Really disappointed for Payet and Valencia.
Everton have really become a nasty aggresive team, so much for spanish (martinez) flair.
However i dont believe we should be looking for retribution in return game, we must retain composure and get the 3 points.
Stoke, Westbrom, Sunderland etc will use similar tactics on us and we should be aware. Hopefully Song and Antonio will step into the void. COYI
