  • The Championship has quite a lot of money in it now, much more I think than when we were there. It would not be easy to get out and I think we'd have far less of our squad willing to play there than last time.

I really enjoyed it last time, we had season tickets and went to over half the away games. We would turn up an literally fill their stadiums, drink all the beer and do a conga.

Despite that we can not go down this season.
  • Since I moved up north fifteen years ago I’ve been to a lot away games in the north and midlands and have always been amazed at our away support. There’s not many grounds left I haven’t been to.
In all that time I can only remember us winning three times yet the fans still travel and support in their thousands.
You do question your sanity and loyalty as you get frogmarched out of St Andrews after yet another defeat then a couple of days later your ticket for Wigan turns up and the old passion and expectations return.
This feels different, I’ve rejected my ticket for Man. City and can’t honestly say if I’ll go again this season. They take us for granted and those travelling fans deserve better.
I was born and brought up less than half a mile from Upton Park and I was the third generation fan ( my son is now the fourth) I went with my dad and saw the likes of Johnny Dick, Musgrove and Woosnam so I’ve seen a lot of ups and downs in all those years but I never lost the passion for my club.Until now.

That's what I feel they want, die hard fans demanding vs causal football tourists who will turn up in numbers buy merchandise and then disappear for the next lot

West Ham United was the football club, West Ham United (London) is the brand.
I don't believe that those two things can coexist.
  • I don't think you can sell 30,000 'casual' tickets for many games.
  • It's interesting how all the media and ex pros are coming out now.
  • and its all vary damning.
  • Ham. We all know what the media are like, they smell a story and jump on the bandwagon and try and built it to a news worthy story to give them something to write and talk about.

Whilst that is true under most circumstances. Is does not appear to be the case this time.

Joe Cole was not over egging the pudding.

I think Joe Cole and Steve McManaman in that interview on football focus nailed it pretty much.
  • The Olympic Stadium connection with a relegation battle makes it newsworthy in it's own right.

I actually felt he was restraining himself a bit and being careful with his wording because he would like to be a coach with us.
  • I didn't see the interview on football focus.

"Relegation from the Premier League is the greatest threat to West Ham’s financial wellbeing, according to accounts which reveal that the club’s expenditure on transfers, wages and improved training facilities contributed to an expected pre-tax loss of £28.8m during the last financial year."

"David Sullivan and David Gold, were paid a combined £2.9m in interest in August 2019 on their loans to the club and that a further £1m was paid to GGI international, a company related to Gold, in respect of a partial repayment of loan capital. As of 31 May 2019 the combined balance of unsecured loans advanced by Sullivan and Gold amounted to £45m.

The highest-paid director at the club was the vice-chairman Karren Brady, whose salary increased from £898,000 to £1.136m."

  • Disgusting she gets a 20%+ pay rise, I bet none of the other staff at the club got that much. Then to boot she's actually offering nothing to the club, accounts are just getting worse under her stewardship.
  • It just gets worse every day. I'm at breaking point.
  • What on earth does Brady do to deserve earn be paid that kind of salary ?
  • You could say the same for Noble and most of the players too.

    SHE'S ON HOW MUCH??!! image
  • It absolutely baffles me that people keep coming for Mark Noble. Maybe he's not good enough anymore for some people, but the amount I see him criticised is madness.
  • Alderz - I have been critical of Noble because I dont think he does enough as captain on the pitch and he does slow the game down at times. However he has made a huge contribution to the club and I hope he moves into a coaching role in the next year or so rather than play until he has little to contribute. Although I can find fault with him he is still Mr west Ham.

Karen Brady’s “salary” - There is no possible justification whatsoever, none

I can find fault with him, I just feel that a lot of the criticism is disproportionate. I am not disputing that he isn't as good as he once was. Even over the past 2 years his tackles per game, interceptions per game and key passes per game have all dropped. However, I think the criticism should be levelled at the owners or and managers who haven't replaced him.

Also, in terms of lack of leadership, I think he consistently shows for the ball where others don't. Every year* since promotion he's had more average passes per game than anyone else in our team (*Rice is slightly above him this year). If you go through the stats the majority of sides have centre backs leading the way, but we have one man who consistently shows for the ball, and is available to help out the team, and it's Mark Noble.

I don't really know what people mean by not enough as a captain?
  • Alderz

"he's had more average passes per game"

And therein lies the problem - average.

What does anybody do to get that sort of salary. I imagine it's comparable to what people at her level in a multi-million pound business in a capitalist society get.

    Is everybody turning socialist now?

This still doesn't help me understand what people mean by not doing enough as a captain.
  • MrsGrey, I've no need to turn.
