  • Not really bothered but if that was the case, why not start him and take him off after 30 mins, I am a little more cynical and feel it had something to do with the opportunity to secure appearance and scoring bonuses.

But I have not had my coffee this morning and woke up with a case of the grumps
  • You can't start a player if you aren't prepared to keep them on all game, though. If you get a couple of unforseen injuries, what do you do then? More sensible to see how the game goes and if you have the flexibility at the end to put the player on (whether it's a yoof, someone coming back from injury, or a cameo) then you do.
  • Laughing at Morata - makes the VAR symbol to the ref after he's fouled.... It's not in use. #noluckatall
  • Why are they only using it in some games?
  • Dunno. We were wondering that. maybe it hasn't been installed at all PL grounds yet?
  • Comms on another stream have just said it wasn't used in any of the 3pm games.

Now I'm speculating that maybe they don't have enough fully-trained referrees to staff the video-room.
  • These are the 3rd round games using VAR

    Saturday 5 January 2019
AFC Bournemouth v Brighton & Hove Albion (12.30pm GMT)
    Burnley v Barnsley (12.30pm GMT)
West Ham United v Birmingham City (12.30pm GMT)
Manchester United v Reading (12.30pm GMT)
Crystal Palace v Grimsby Town (5.30pm GMT)
Newcastle United v Blackburn Rovers (5.30pm GMT)

    Sunday 6 January 2019
Fulham v Oldham Athletic (2pm GMT)
Manchester City v Rotherham United (2pm GMT)

    Monday 7 January 2019
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool (7.45pm GMT)
  • It was used at Burnley to reverse a penalty awarded and at Man U to award one
  • If they'd had VAR in the Che!sea game they could have seen

Fabregas stops in his run up - indirect free kick and yellow for Fabregas

    Or

That several Chelsea players encroached - indirect free kick to Forest

    Or

That several Forest players had encroached - retaken penalty

    Or

That the keeper moved early - retaken pen and yellow for keeper:

Not the corner the ref in fact awarded.

Suspect he's not going to get a good review...
  • When is the draw for the next round?
  • edited January 2019
    Monday, after the Wolves game.
  • Gillingham Town 1 - 0 Cardiff City

Colin has complained about the length of time it took to get an inured Gills player off on a stretcher and said his players "would not have scored in a million years".

    Gracious in defeat as ever...

    Gillingham Town 1 - 0 Cardiff City

I wrote that twice cos its funny

    Gillingham Town 1 - 0 Cardiff City

    Still funny.
  • At the risk of being fair to Colin, his concern seemed to be for the slowness of the response in medical terms, rather than time wasting.

I was just watching bits of MOTD, and caught the Spurs highlights.... I hadn't watched the match on Friday.

Blimey, there are some fat blokes playing for Tranmere! ;porkpie ;porkpie
  • Tranmere's McNulty when he was playing for Luton...

  • Some of this BBC radio commentary is cringe-making. So patronising.
  • Vashon Neufville loaned to Newport in time to play v Leicester, goes straight into the team.

Apparently one of our kids (Neufville) has just joined Newport on loan. He's playing in the FA cup game against Leicester tonight. Good luck to him! coyi

    Second is just first last...

(Radio comms on my PC is slightly ahead...)
  • Didn’t know you had kids who play for West Ham lol
  • Second is just first last...

    ;doh

Can't believe you gave me the duff PC.
  • Oh I can. ;biggrin
  • Always had a soft spot for Barnet.

    Blades go out ;lol
  • So Fulham get awarded a penalty and make a substitution to bring on Mitrovic to take it. Guess what happens next. ;lol
  • Most interesting thing for me in the Leicester game is where had it been a PL game they’d be rolling around after a foul or tackle, here they are just getting up and getting on with it.
  • Blunts out, so sad. ;weep

What's the betting they'll find a way to blame us. ;lol
  • Newport's penalty came from Neufville crossing the ball.
  • Beckham esque
